Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Nowadays, individuals need to balance work and life. According to the group, it is best to hang out with friends from work in the evenings and on weekends. In contrast, others believe it is essential to maintain a distance between work and social life. Here, I will discuss both the above-mentioned views and give my opinion in the following paragraphs.
Let's begin with the former view that is to meet friends from work in the evening and on weekends. In other words, individuals are able to discuss only work and particular tasks related to the company. When they meet outside the company, they are able to share their personal life and get to know each other, which is helpful to build a strong relationship. For example, my work colleagues and I meet mostly on weekends to spend some quality time and explore new places. It not only gives a professional touch but is also helpful to build personal relationships. Another point worth mentioning is that they can solve issues quickly. To elaborate, they have less time to discuss the project, tasks, and any information related to the company within the organization. If they meet at a park, home, or other places, they are able to discuss work and solve any problems related to this, which is beneficial for the company's growth.
On the other hand, the latter view implies that it is essential to maintain distance between work and social life. Firstly, when individuals keep their social life separate from work. They can spend more time with their loved ones, which is useful for them to take breaks and relax from hectic schedules. As a result, they can focus more on their work. Secondly, if they spend more evenings and weekends with their kids, they are able to not only focus on their education but also learn more about their weak subjects.
In conclusion, from the points mentioned above, it can be recapitulated that both views have valid reasons. However, I personally believe that human beings should maintain a distance between their work and social life. Because of this, they can concentrate more on their work after relaxation and take care of their kids.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both viewpoints and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, though some development is slightly repetitive. For instance, the argument about solving work issues outside of hours is a bit thin, as it contradicts the idea of 'socialising' by focusing on work tasks. The position is consistent throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarises the stance. To reach a higher band, ensure that the supporting examples are more distinct and directly linked to the core arguments rather than focusing on work-related tasks during leisure time.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organised with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'To elaborate', and 'On the other hand' are used effectively to link ideas. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and there is occasional awkwardness in sentence-level cohesion, such as the sentence fragment 'Firstly, when individuals keep their social life separate from work.' which should be connected to the following sentence. Overall, the flow is coherent and the structure is appropriate for the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'professional touch' and 'hectic schedules'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler phrasing (e.g., 'hang out', 'good idea'). Some word choices are slightly imprecise, such as 'recapitulated' in the conclusion, which is used in a context that doesn't quite fit its formal definition. Expanding the range of collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary would improve the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical slips. For example, 'According to the group' is vague, and there are minor punctuation and sentence boundary errors, such as the fragmented sentence mentioned in the coherence section. The use of articles and prepositions is generally accurate, but there is a lack of more sophisticated complex structures that would elevate the writing. The errors present do not impede communication, but they do limit the score to the 6.0-6.5 range.
