Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this modern era, people prefer to socialize actively despite any known relationship with others to initiate friendship. Some individuals consider it as a positive approach to connect with their colleagues whenever there is free time while others think completely opposite where it is important to keep private and professional life is a wise decision. I believe these days establishing great bonds with others is very crucial.

To begin with, these days people are literally busy in there hectic working routines which create a sense of emptiness among them. As a result, they prefer to socially interact with their co-workers during weekends to reduce their stress-level and initiate bondings. For instance, countries like Canada, England and Australia where individuals prefer to socialize with their team members in restaurants and bars.

However, sometimes people cross their boundaries while being too much available for others out of affection which later negatively effect their professional life as well. In addition, there are various jobs where even our position is higher then other crew members which requires a strict behavior to run business smoothly. For example, in big companies if seniors will build a friendly relation with their subordinates it will later reflect in working culture.

In my opinion, it is not an easy task to build good relationships with others especially with our own colleagues but people with great personality always attract others.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, but the development is limited. The essay is under the 250-word minimum, which significantly impacts the depth of the arguments. The points regarding the benefits of socializing and the potential drawbacks of blurring professional boundaries are relevant but remain underdeveloped. The conclusion is incomplete, which prevents a full summary of the position. To improve, you should expand on your examples and ensure that your arguments are fully explored to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt at logical progression. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'In addition, there are various jobs where even our position is higher then other crew members'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the abrupt ending of the essay disrupts the overall flow. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph transitions smoothly into the next, leading to a complete and coherent conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are some instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'initiate bondings' and 'literally busy'. While the meaning is clear, the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to workplace dynamics and social interaction. Avoiding informal intensifiers like 'literally' will also help improve the academic tone of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'there hectic working routines' (should be 'their'), 'higher then' (should be 'than'), and 'negatively effect' (should be 'affect'). While these errors do not usually impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on proofreading for common homophone errors and subject-verb agreement to ensure greater accuracy in your complex sentence constructions.
