Student answer (Band 7.0)
In today's world, there is a debate about whether it is good idea to spend some evening time with work colleagues or not. While some people think that it is good to unwind after busy day, others argue that it's necessary to maintain a gap between work life and social life. This essay will discuss both sides before presenting my opinion.
On the one hand, many people believe that spending time with colleagues after work is beneficial. The main reason for this is that it strengthen relationships and improve teamwork. For example, employees who meet outside the workplace often communicate more effectively and trust each other. In the mean time employees discuss their future goals and hobbies. Therefore, this viewpoint has its own advantages because it gives them opportunity to discuss further problems and solutions. Hence, after office hours meetings also play crucial roles in their productivity.
On the other hand, others argue that work life should be remain separate from personal life. They believe this because everyone needs time to relax and spend with family and friends. For instance, constantly socialising with colleagues may increase stress and reduce personal freedom. As a result, sometimes they face difficulties to give orders to their fellow employees because of much socialising. Consequently, having separation in both work life and social life is very important to maintain healthy relations.
In conclusion, although both views have their own merits, I believe that maintaining a balance is more beneficial. Spending some time with colleagues can improve workplace relationships, but personal life should be different.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both viewpoints and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of teamwork and the necessity of personal downtime. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'difficulties to give orders' is an interesting observation but is not fully explained or supported with a concrete example. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your arguments with more detailed explanations or specific real-world scenarios. The position is consistent throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes your stance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Therefore', and 'Consequently' to link your ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes a bit mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, the flow between sentences could be smoother; for example, the transition between discussing teamwork and discussing future goals in the second paragraph feels slightly abrupt. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the progression of ideas is clear.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'unwind', 'productivity', and 'personal freedom'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'work life should be remain separate' (should remain) and 'after office hours meetings'. While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on fairly simple phrasing. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to professional environments and work-life balance to enhance the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'it is good idea' (missing article), 'strengthen' (should be 'strengthens'), and 'difficulties to give orders' (difficulties in giving orders). These errors do not impede communication, but they are noticeable. To achieve a higher band, you need to demonstrate more consistent control over complex structures and ensure subject-verb agreement and article usage are accurate. Increasing the variety of your sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will also help improve your score.
