Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people are in favor of socializing more with work colleagues during evenings and over a weekends while other thinks opposite to it. This essay will discuss both the views along with my opinion at the end.

To begin with, When you are working together at a same place and spending most of your day time during the week in the office with your colleagues, spending extra time in the weekend and evenings will strengthen your bond with them. It will also help you to develop a relation beyond just as a professional colleagues. For instance, going for coffee on evening with colleagues will not only give you a chance to know him/her in better way but also it will make easier to work with them as a team.

On the contrary some believes that it is necessary to keep personal and professional life separate. As the corporate relations are not made up of emotions. They are more of a compulsion, they are related and friends with each other just because they are colleagues. Furthermore, there are high chance of misusing personal shared information with colleagues by them for their benefits. Secrets shared with colleagues can be used as weapon against us. Such as blackmailing, sexual harassment. And they can take undue advantage of this. Sometimes it can cause losing a job.

To conclude, In my opinion it is good to have strong bond and out of office relations with colleagues but one should not forget to set some boundaries and people need to be very cautious about the details they are sharing with colleagues.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the benefits of socializing are explained, the counter-argument regarding the risks of mixing professional and personal life is a bit extreme, focusing heavily on negative scenarios like 'blackmailing' and 'sexual harassment' rather than more common workplace dynamics. This limits the depth of the discussion. To reach a higher band, ensure that arguments are balanced and explored with more nuanced, realistic examples that directly address the prompt's core theme of work-life balance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with,' 'On the contrary,' and 'To conclude,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally weak, such as the use of 'they' in the second paragraph, which lacks a clear antecedent. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly rather than relying on standard opening phrases.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are some awkward collocations, such as 'corporate relations are not made up of emotions' and 'at a same place.' While the meaning is clear, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive and lacks sophistication. To improve, you should focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoiding informal phrasing. Expanding your range to include more topic-specific vocabulary related to workplace dynamics would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('at a same place'), subject-verb agreement ('other thinks'), and pluralization ('on the weekend' vs 'on weekends'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentence fragments and unnecessary capitalization. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining complex sentence construction will help improve your score.
