Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, mostly people prepare outings with their co workers during evenings and on weekends. While, some want to spend their time with their families and want work life and social life separate. In my opinion work life and social life both should stay separate. on the other hand, there are also some benefits of socializing with colleagues.

Firstly, if people go outside for a lunch or a dinner with their co-workers. They get more time to understand each other's likes and dislikes and their behaviour. Not only they can better understand each other but also they can share their views regarding work and sort any issues they have. Secondly, it became very easy and comfortable working at a place where all are friendly towards each other. It helps them to solve any work issues without any hesitation. Moreover, they can do their work with more concentration because when working environment is positive it feels like home to some people.

On the other hand, it's very important to keep working like and social life separate because some people take advantage of other's weaknesses. Sometimes people get too much attached to their colleagues that they start sharing everything with them about their house, family and so on. which then makes it difficult for them to stay focused on work. Because sometimes people share their secrets with other workers which makes a person feel awkward and it effects their work alot and they get distracted from their future goals.

At the last, there are both pros and cons of socialising with workers but if people should not share everything about their personal life with colleagues. it would be better for both sides.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of team bonding and the risks of over-sharing personal information. However, the development of these points is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the discussion on 'work-life balance' could be expanded with more specific examples of how professional boundaries are maintained. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To improve, ensure that each paragraph offers a distinct, well-supported point that directly contributes to the overall argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'On the other hand', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as starting a sentence with 'which then makes it difficult'. Additionally, the punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with sentence fragments like 'which then makes it difficult for them to stay focused on work.' Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring proper punctuation would significantly enhance the coherence of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'concentration' and 'hesitation', but the range is somewhat limited. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'mostly people prepare outings' instead of 'many people plan outings' and 'it effects their work' (should be 'affects'). To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('it effects their work') and sentence fragments ('which then makes it difficult...'). Punctuation is also problematic, with several sentences starting with conjunctions or being incorrectly separated. While the writer attempts complex structures, the control is inconsistent. Increasing the accuracy of basic grammar and refining the use of complex sentences will help improve the score in this criterion.
