Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent time when people are more prioritizing work than their social life. Some people think it is a good idea to socialize more with work colleagues after the working hours, while others believe people should segregate their social life. I reckon in order to maintain healthy work life balance, people should not more socialize with their working professions.

To start with, why it became so important to keep social life away or separate from a working life? To answer, people often feel stressed from their work place. Thus, it becomes very important when they come back home, they should not feel the same. Furthermore, people usually work eight to ten hours five times a week that means they spend their half of life at working place. Also, It gets very tiring to repeat the same process over and over again, so they often feel stressed, angry. Therefore, if they contemn meeting their work colleagues after the business hours and start spending their time with their families or friends, they may start feeling relief and refresh.

On the Other side, spending a social time with work colleagues is often appreciated by many people. The reason could be building healthy relationship. As people spend their maximum amount of time at work place, it is very important for them to share a good relationship with their colleagues. So, if they start spending or planning their weekends or evenings together, they may end making a good bond with each other. In addition, when someone is spending their half of the life at work place, it is very important to have a good trustworthy relationship with their colleague. Thus, planning weekends or evenings together may help them to create it.

To conclude, yes, spending a quality social time with work colleagues is a good way to strenthen work life. However, I completely feel in order to keep healthy work life balance, people should avoid meeting their working partners.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the amount of time spent at work. The argument for keeping work and social life separate is clear, but the reasoning could be more nuanced. The conclusion contradicts the body paragraph slightly by suggesting that socializing is a good way to strengthen work life, which weakens the consistency of the position. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point adds a new dimension to the argument rather than restating the same premise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To start with', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other side' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'To answer, people often feel stressed'. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure would benefit from more sophisticated linking between sentences to improve the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, though it lacks variety and precision. There are some noticeable errors in word choice, such as 'contemn' (which is misused here) and 'working professions' (which is an unnatural collocation). The student relies on basic vocabulary like 'good', 'important', and 'people'. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. While the meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is limited and does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'In recent time when people are more prioritizing work', 'they should not more socialize', and 'it is very important to have a good trustworthy relationship with their colleague'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are issues with article usage and verb forms. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. A greater focus on sentence construction and subject-verb agreement is needed.
