Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 94 words. Consequently, the task is not fully addressed, and the ideas are severely underdeveloped. While the introduction attempts to outline both viewpoints and state an opinion, the body paragraphs are incomplete, failing to provide the necessary support or examples required for a full discussion. Because the response is less than half the required length, it cannot meet the criteria for a higher band score, as the development of ideas is essentially non-existent.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay shows an attempt at logical organization by using an introduction and starting a body paragraph with 'On the one hand'. However, the text is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are minimal, and the abrupt ending prevents the development of a coherent argument. The structure is fragmented, and the lack of a conclusion or a completed second body paragraph makes it difficult to assess the writer's ability to manage cohesion over a full-length essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and contains several spelling errors, such as 'belive' instead of 'believe', 'benificial' instead of 'beneficial', and 'bounding' instead of 'bonding'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and the errors occasionally distract the reader. There is little evidence of the ability to use less common lexical items or to demonstrate precision in word choice. To improve, the student needs to focus on accurate spelling and expanding their range of topic-specific vocabulary related to work-life balance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. Examples include 'there are divided opinion' (should be 'there are divided opinions'), 'Other think opposite way' (should be 'Others think the opposite way'), and 'I strongly prefer to avoiding time spend' (should be 'I strongly prefer to avoid spending time'). The sentence structures are simple and often contain errors in verb forms and article usage. The lack of complex sentence structures and the high frequency of basic errors indicate a limited control over grammatical range and accuracy.
