Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many believe that social gathering with colleagues during weekends and evenings have pros whilist others think that personal and professional lives should not mixed together. I believe socialisation is better but to some extent.

Employees should connect well on gatherings than in offices. They can talk on any topic, moreover, they can discuss any project without any pressure. For instance, an junior can discuss any work related issue with their senior without any hesitation while partying which helps to release their stress which they are having at jobs.

In gatherings, everyone is on same pace. Employees can also give their constructive feedbacks and suggestions to their higher authorities. Furthermore, seniors can understand them better in these informal meetings which create a good impact to the company. As, there are lots of point of view on one table. Managers can get the ideas and apply them, which lead a harmonious balance in a company.

However, Co-workers do not like if some other person invade their privacy. Some individuals wanted to keep their life in a shell. They do not want to disclose any personal information with others. For example, one cannot share their personal matters, but while partying, somehow, secrets can be shared and it will become gossip sooner or later. It will create a disturbance in office environment.

Social gathering is good option to explore people and to create a balanced environment in workplace. On contrary, too much socialisation can create disturbances and conflicts in between workers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the essay is slightly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of the arguments. While the ideas are relevant, some points, such as the 'harmonious balance' in a company, are not fully developed with concrete examples. The conclusion is brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a more robust explanation and a clear link back to the prompt's core question. The under-length penalty is applied here as the response fails to meet the minimum requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'On contrary', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the benefits of socialising and the potential for gossip is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall flow and coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'harmonious balance' and 'constructive feedbacks', though the latter is grammatically incorrect (feedback is uncountable). Some word choices are slightly imprecise, such as 'explore people' or 'keep their life in a shell'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding the range of vocabulary to include more academic or formal synonyms would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('social gathering... have pros', 'Some individuals wanted to keep'), incorrect preposition usage, and missing articles. While these errors do not typically impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency. To improve, pay closer attention to pluralization, verb tense consistency, and the correct use of articles. Practicing complex sentence structures, such as conditional clauses, would also help demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
