Student answer (Band 6.0)

Most individuals believes that it’s an appropriate idea to socialize with work colleagues outside work during evenings and weekends. Other individuals believe to keep work life completely separate from social life is important. This essay will discuss both views. I am of the opinion that socializing with co-workers is more preferable.

It is a good idea for the socialization of work colleagues, it foster oneness and unity. Most colleagues at work that tend to bond and have time to socialize outside the workplace tends to promote harmony and unity among themselves. This great reflects at their work space and the amount of work output they give. This ones enhances positivity towards one another at work and it gives room for efficiency and effectiveness of work being done. Socializing with work colleagues outside creates and enables a happy environment for them to work. Such togetherness gives room for safe space to work in. For example, when work colleagues of a company organizing social night every last Saturday of every month, it fosters togetherness, oneness and unity among themselves and creates enabling room for high productivity at work. Another good aspect of work colleagues socializing, is the part of getting to know each other beyond office work. This actually tends to bring most colleagues together especially when they share same thing. A colleague who is good at something can also get to know about others who are good at that too. This will make everyone to know each other beyond work. For example, a colleague who loves sports, getting to know about few others that loves sports. This build up closeness and more unity among all .

One disadvantage of this, of which some people are of the opinion of maintaining work work life separate from personal life, is the part of keeping boundaries. Many people loves keeping boundaries especially about issues or things relating to their personal life. They believe separating personal life and that of work life is of great importance to them. For instance, a worker who is an introvert, will prefer to keep his or her personal lifestyle total separated from work life.

In conclusion, socializing with work colleagues foster oneness and unity, and getting to know each other differently from work space. While keeping work life separate from that of personal life shows boundaries. I am of the opinion that socializing with co-workers is more preferable.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the argument for socialization focuses heavily on 'oneness and unity' without exploring diverse benefits. The counter-argument regarding boundaries is mentioned but lacks depth, relying on a single example of an introvert. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more nuanced reasons and ensure that the supporting examples are more distinct and fully explored. The position is consistent, but the supporting arguments could be more varied.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'this' to start sentences or the repetitive phrasing of 'oneness and unity'. Some transitions between sentences feel abrupt, and the logical flow within paragraphs could be smoother. While the overall progression is clear, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the reliance on simple sentence structures limit the effectiveness of the cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is significant repetition of basic terms like 'work', 'colleagues', 'socialize', and 'unity'. Some collocations are unnatural, such as 'appropriate idea' instead of 'good idea' or 'enabling room'. To improve, you should focus on using a wider variety of synonyms and more precise academic collocations to express your ideas more effectively and avoid repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'Most individuals believes', 'colleagues... tends to promote'), incorrect word forms ('This great reflects'), and awkward phrasing ('This ones enhances'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage would be highly beneficial.
