Student answer (Band 6.0)

Socializing with work colleagues is good idea according to some people and Other people thinks that keep social life separate from work life. Below I will show you some pros and cons of this topic.

People think that socialize with work colleagues is good of weekends and after work. By hanging out with colleagues is a good idea so that we can get to know each other outside the work life and make good bond with each other. For example, after work plan some activities to do like bowling, everyone will meet at this time at this place and then will all go to bowling place, all will have fun and they can split the expense among themselves.

On the other hand, some people thinks that having out with work colleagues is not a good thing. They like to keep work life and social life separate. I think the same, keeping work life separate is better because if someone get promotion then other colleagues will feel jealous and uncomfortable at some point. For Instance, before I used to go out with my work friends and when I got promoted they stopped talking to me like we were not friends before. So, keeping work friendships at work is better. Sometimes it is okay to do a party at work place like in the lunch break ordering some meals for everyone and having it all together.

Overall, I think that keep work life completely separate from social life to avoid any arguments and dislikesment with colleagues.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a personal example regarding a promotion, the explanation for the opposing view is quite brief and relies on simple reasoning. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the benefits of socialising, such as team building or improved communication, and provide more nuanced reasons for why keeping a separation is beneficial. The conclusion is clear, but the overall development of the arguments remains at a basic level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'On the other hand' and 'For instance'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of linking words is repetitive. Some transitions are missing, making the progression of ideas feel a bit abrupt. To improve, try using a wider variety of cohesive devices (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more explicitly stated to improve the overall logical flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on simple phrases like 'good idea' and 'good thing' multiple times. There are also some non-standard word choices, such as 'dislikesment', which is not a real word. To improve, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to workplace dynamics and social interactions. You have a sufficient range to communicate your message, but the lack of flexibility and the occasional errors in word formation prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the flow. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'some people thinks'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'if someone get promotion'). While the meaning is generally clear, these errors are persistent throughout the text. To achieve a higher band, you need to focus on consistent subject-verb agreement, correct verb tenses, and more accurate sentence construction. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring they are error-free is essential for improvement.
