Student answer (Band 6.0)

There are some individuals who are of the opinion that its good idea to socialize with people you work, while others think its not good idea to hangout with people we work. We will discuss both the view in this essay.

Some people think that it is good idea to hangout with work colleagues as socializing with work colleagues can create a bond and friendship with each other. This bond can help you work in a better way and do the task together easily.

In addition to this, these employees form a good team. If the work colleagues hangout they already have a good bond so it benefits firm as their employees form a good team and can work together happily. The organizations spends lot of money for team building activities which can be saved.

Nevertheless, some people think its not appropriate to hangout with work colleagues as there should be some set boundaries between the people we work. As it creates professionalism in work culture. when we hangout with people we work, we tend to be overfriendly and may not have standard of professionalism require for office premises.

Moreover, we spend majority of time working so anyways people spend most of the time together so it can create boredom handing with same people in the evening and weekends too. There is no fun in hanging out with same people all the day. Also, when we hangout too much we tend to share our secrets and which could be reveal by colleagues creating unnecessary issues in personal life.

In my opinion, it is better to have personal and professional life separate as to keep the professionalism require in the work culture and to have personal space away from office.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of team bonding versus the need for professional boundaries. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the point about 'saving money' on team building is a good observation, but the explanation remains brief. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed examples or deeper analysis. The response covers all parts of the prompt, but the depth of discussion is consistent with a mid-range performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each view, and a conclusion. You use some cohesive devices like 'In addition to this', 'Nevertheless', and 'Moreover' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the referencing (e.g., 'the people we work') is occasionally unclear. Improving the flow between sentences and using a wider variety of linking words would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'professionalism', 'work culture', and 'team building'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'hangout with' and 'good bond'. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'handing with' instead of 'hanging out with' and 'which could be reveal' instead of 'which could be revealed'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise synonyms would help improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with articles ('its good idea' instead of 'it's a good idea'), subject-verb agreement, and missing prepositions ('people you work' instead of 'people you work with'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic articles, verb forms, and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately.
