Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this highly competitive era, it is difficult to manage work life balance.

A few individuals believe that it is vital to maintain working life separate form the social life, while others think it's actually better idea to socialize with work colleagues during the weekends and evenings. I shall discuss both views and give my opinion in the upcoming paragraphs.

On the one hand, everyone has their own way to live their life. Firstly, after certain age people spend most of their time of the day with their work colleagues due their jobs and businesses and ,because of that people start to share their daily life happenings with their colleagues. In addition to this few folks find a better bond with them and like to spend after work time as well. Secondly, it becomes hard to make new friends and manage friendships after some point in the life because of the hectic schedule and responsibilities , people prefer to keep their friend circle between their colleagues and like to spend some quality time with them.

On the other hand, some people have insecurities in their life, they are not comfortable to share their personal life with the working colleagues because of some reasons. For example, if people start to share their problems or some sensitive situations with their fellow workers, there may be a chance that people can make fun of them or started to manipulate. Furthermore, a few people believes if you do not make new friends outside of work then sometimes it becomes hard to grow in life and people will end up their life by living everyday same.

To conclude, I believe people should separate their social life from working life, they can get a chance to meet a new people and make a new friends as well as they can grow better in the life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'insecurities' in the second body paragraph is a bit vague and could have been better linked to professional boundaries. While the task is addressed, the supporting arguments lack depth and specific examples, relying on generalisations. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more concrete reasoning or illustrative examples that clearly support the topic sentences.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' effectively. However, some transitions within paragraphs are slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'and' to connect clauses. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the relationship between ideas is more explicitly stated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'hectic schedule', 'sensitive situations', and 'work life balance'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'end up their life by living everyday same' and 'make a new friends'. The range is sufficient for the task, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Focusing on collocations and more academic phrasing would significantly enhance your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' life), subject-verb agreement ('a few people believes'), and punctuation (missing spaces before commas). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'there may be a chance that people can make fun of them or started to manipulate'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures and proofreading for minor errors would be beneficial.
