Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this modern world work is given atmost priority due to which people spend major chunk of the day at workplace with colleagues. It is a contentious argument that one should spend afterhours with work mates doing leisure activities or not. I will be discussing both viewpoints with explanation and relevant examples prior to my opinion on it.

On one hand meeting coworkers outside of work can be entertaining. It is to say that, we usually be at work for almost 10 hours or more so we get along with our colleagues very deep. If there is an incident on workplace we can discuss it among along with learning new things and skills with same interests and this can be a good way to kill time.

On the other hand, there is no harm in thinking the other way because we spent little too much time on work then one should allocate rest to their family. To exemplify, we usually talk about work life balance and if we socialize with workmates we might remain confined to that circle and feel that we are still on the clock so some people choose to keep personal and professional lives separate. Which indeed help them to strengthen their ties with their families.

In my view point there should be balance between work and personal life and I believe in saying that anything over is not good for health and it also applies in terms of relationships.

To conclude, every single individual has their personal thinking on this topic. Although there is no harm in going out with friends from work but one should always consider needs of family as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both viewpoints and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument for socializing is supported by the vague notion of 'killing time' and 'learning new things,' which lacks depth. Similarly, the counter-argument regarding work-life balance is mentioned but not fully explored with concrete examples. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments would benefit from more specific, real-world examples to move beyond general statements. To improve, ensure each point is fully extended with clear reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. The use of cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'To conclude' helps guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'It is to say that' and 'Which indeed help them.' Additionally, the flow within paragraphs could be improved; for example, the second paragraph jumps between ideas without smooth internal linking. Overall, the progression is clear, but the management of cohesive devices needs more flexibility to reach a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common collocations like 'contentious argument' and 'work-life balance.' However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'atmost priority' (utmost), 'incident on workplace' (at the workplace), and 'anything over is not good' (excessive). The range is sufficient to communicate, but the lack of precision and occasional awkward phrasing prevents a higher score. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'we usually be at work' (we are usually at work), 'discuss it among along with' (redundant phrasing), and 'every single individual has their personal thinking' (opinion). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward sentence constructions that slightly impede the flow. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and avoiding redundant words to ensure that complex sentences are constructed accurately.
