Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views regarding socializing with colleagues and keeping work and life separate. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you mention the benefits of bonding, the discussion on the 'separate' view is slightly tangential, focusing more on personality types (introverts/freelancers) rather than the philosophical argument for maintaining professional boundaries. Your own opinion is present in the conclusion, but it is quite brief. To improve, ensure each viewpoint is supported by more specific, balanced arguments and clearly state your position in the introduction as well as the conclusion to ensure a more consistent perspective throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into two main paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the two perspectives. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between the two viewpoints is abrupt, and some sentences lack logical flow, such as the jump from discussing introverts to suggesting they are better at freelancing. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly with the phrase 'this types of people'. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'conversely', 'consequently') and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'affection furniture' (likely a typo for 'affection for') and 'business person' used as a plural noun. Additionally, the phrasing 'social animal' is a bit clichéd. You rely on basic vocabulary, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic language. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to workplace dynamics and professional boundaries, and pay closer attention to correct word forms and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'socializing... indicate'), incorrect pluralization (e.g., 'most of the people socialized'), and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors prevents the text from achieving a higher score. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, before attempting more complex structures.
