Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is believed among some individuals that socializing with work colleagues after work or at weekends is a good choice, while others think that there should be no connection of personal and work life. This essay will discuss both the views and in my opinion, there is no need to meet colleagues socially during free time.

On the one hand, spending time with the co-workers after work is beneficial to discuss the problems of the company or any running project. This can lead to find better solutions for the current job related issues and also helps in relieving the stress about the project. Additionally, it may also creates a good connection among colleagues which enhances the communication skills and gives better idea about the behavior of the particular person in providing specific tasks to them which can lead to success of the company.

However, after work there should be no connection with the co-workers. Firstly, if they keep arranging meetings with colleagues, they may not have sufficient time for themselves and for the families. Therefore, there are high chances of dispute among the family. Secondly, meeting the co-workers multiple times can have negative impact on their relation at the work as well. For instance, the colleagues can share their personal information with the other employees which may lead to dispute among co-workers.

In conclusion, although meeting with colleagues sometimes is helpful in discussing the issues related to the job, maintaining distance from the co-workers during free time is better to focus on yourself and the family.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of team bonding versus the importance of work-life balance. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'dispute among the family' is a bit vague and could have been expanded with a more concrete example. While the position is clear throughout, the essay would benefit from more depth in the supporting arguments to reach a higher band. Overall, it is a solid response that fulfills the basic requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'However,' 'Firstly,' and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to signal shifts in the argument. While the use of these devices is sometimes a bit mechanical, they serve their purpose well in maintaining the flow of the text. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall structure is coherent, making the writer's points easy to understand.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task. The student uses some topic-specific terms like 'co-workers,' 'communication skills,' and 'work-life balance' (implied). However, there are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'running project' instead of 'ongoing project' and 'gives better idea about the behavior' instead of 'provides better insight into the behavior.' The range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, but it lacks the more sophisticated or precise lexical choices that would characterize a higher band. There are no significant spelling or word-choice errors that impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'it may also creates' (should be 'create') and 'lead to find better solutions' (should be 'lead to finding'). Additionally, the phrase 'no connection of personal and work life' is slightly awkward. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, and the mistakes do not impede the reader's understanding. The student shows an ability to use complex sentences, but the control over these structures is not yet consistent enough for a higher band.
