Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some individuals argue that whether spending weekends and evenings with work colleagues is a good idea or should we keep the lifestyle of work completely separate from personal life. As, both views got their own reasoning but in my prospective, I support the idea of connecting with your colleagues in your free time.

To commence with, The predominant reason of not spending your outside work hours with your colleagues is that many people think that it can ruin the professionalism and boundaries with them. They can use their personal opinions against them in the workplace to harass them in front of whole team. For instance, Gen Z, which is considered as soft-hearted, are tend to found less connected with colleagues after work than millennials. Due to this presence of this fear, majority of worker choose not to invite their colleagues on parties and other events, which normally occurs on weekends.

However, spending quality time with other workers in your team can assist you to create a strong sense of community and can lead to long journey of work with positive attitude regardless of work pressure. If people would start communicating and bonding with their colleagues, it can make the understanding between them much stronger, which ultimately results in improved work performance and they can thrive tensed workload much better as than before. To illustrate this, there was a experiment conducted in 2025, in London between the workers who socialise with other team members and with those who prefer not to mix personal time off with work members with same workload. It was found out that worker who connected with their team members were more happy than other ones who did not connected. Moreover, they were stressed and exhausted. Therefore, making yourself comfortable with your colleagues will indeed make the work life a bit better.

To conclude, Even though some worker feel the hesitation to spend their weekends and evenings with work colleagues yet I firmly believe that individuals should make a effort to invite their team members tooutside work culture to know more about them and to create a strong bond with them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the concern regarding professional boundaries and the benefits of team bonding. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the example regarding 'Gen Z' is a bit vague, and the reference to a '2025 experiment' is hypothetical and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that examples are more concrete and that the link between the evidence and the argument is more robustly explained. The position is consistent throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'However', and 'To conclude', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, although the referencing in the second body paragraph (e.g., 'the other ones who did not connected') is slightly confusing due to grammatical errors. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views and the writer's own stance.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'predominant', 'professionalism', and 'hesitation'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'thrive tensed workload' instead of 'manage a heavy workload' and 'long journey of work' instead of 'long-term professional relationships'. While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include 'are tend to found less connected', 'majority of worker choose', and 'did not connected'. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency. The errors are noticeable and occur frequently, though they rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended message.
