Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people think of hanging out with work colleagues is a better idea, while others contradict this vewpoint by keeping both the lifes isolated. In my opinion, having a balanced level of friendship with other employees creates an ideal opportuntiy in a person's life.

First of all, when we socialise with our friends, we create an emotional bonding, which is necessary in everybody's life. When such connections are build with co-workers gives us support when needed during work. For example, an individual who works for an software developing company, where he works in a team and share different responsibilities. During this if a vulnerable bug was reported, if the members used to socialise outside of work, would provide necessary help to each others. It would lead to healthy mindset and improved productivity.

However, there are a few downsides about bonding with colleagues, one of them is competetiveness to climb to higher positions. For instance, when two employees enjoy their life together everytime, when the situation occurs for promotion, they might get into fight to compete for it. Moreover, it leads to unhealthy practices and can cause unproductive outcomes. Another drawback is uncertinity of life, nowadays people hop companies in search of growth opportunities and better income. Consequenlty, it can lead to heart breaks if someone suddenly leaves the organisation.

To conclude, I would like to say that, there should be a limit to how much socialising to be done with work colleagues as this would help us to deal with any unexpected situations along with a helping hand, if required.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant; however, the development is somewhat uneven. For example, the argument regarding 'vulnerable bugs' is a bit specific and slightly confusing in its phrasing, which limits the clarity of the point. The counter-argument about competitiveness is well-chosen, but the explanation of 'heart breaks' is a bit informal and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more precise reasoning rather than relying on anecdotal or slightly vague examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First of all', 'However', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'During this if a vulnerable bug was reported', which lacks a clear subject-verb connection to the previous sentence. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is evident throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some spelling errors, such as 'opportuntiy', 'competetiveness', 'uncertinity', and 'Consequenlty', which are noticeable. While the writer attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'vulnerable bug' and 'organisation', the range is somewhat limited. The phrasing is occasionally unnatural, such as 'create an emotional bonding' (should be 'bond') and 'hop companies'. Improving precision and accuracy in word choice would significantly enhance the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'Many people think of hanging out... is a better idea' (incorrect structure) and 'when the situation occurs for promotion, they might get into fight' (missing article). Subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'connections are build' (should be 'built') and 'how much socialising to be done' (awkward passive construction), are present. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching the 7.0 band.
