Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people think that its a good idea to socialise with work colleagues during evening and weekends while other think that its is important to keep working life completely separate from social life. In my view point both has their own pros and cons but i personally thinks that it is good idea to socialize with work colleagues during evening and weekends.

Firstly, if we meet for some of our colleagues from works in the evening and during the weekends, we can get more comfortable with them. This will allow us to know more of our colleagues and we get more comfortable with them this will led to a good team in the future because if know them it will going to help us in the communication with them and it will result in a good team work as well.

Furthermore, another reason that i believe that we need plan to spend time outside with our colleagues so we can talk about how there days was, what happened during the days and if any one has any droughts regarding the work we can also discuss that with colleagues for which we did not get time to discuss during the days.

On the other hand, if we mixed both our social and work life together, we will not be able to give more time to our family and our loved once if spend too much time with our colleagues. Another disadvantage is that we will not make new friend outside the work as we spend so much time with office colleagues.

In Conclusion, benefits of socializing with our work colleagues will over ride the disadvantage of the keeping work and social life, So i believe that we should get together with our work colleagues.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the argument regarding 'team work' is mentioned twice in the second paragraph without significant expansion. While the position is clear, the supporting points are somewhat generic. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more specific examples or nuanced reasoning to justify your stance, rather than restating the same benefits in slightly different ways. The conclusion effectively summarizes the position, but the overall development remains at a basic level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', and 'In Conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing or repetitive sentence structures. For example, the transition between the benefits of socializing and the potential for better communication is a bit disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this', 'that') is precise would enhance the overall flow and coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'socialise', 'colleagues', and 'team work'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'droughts' (likely meaning 'doubts') and 'loved once' (should be 'loved ones'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic, repetitive phrasing. To improve, focus on learning more precise collocations and synonyms to avoid repeating the same words throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'both has their own pros', 'i personally thinks'), missing articles, and punctuation errors (e.g., 'its' instead of 'it's'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors demonstrate a lack of control over complex structures. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your use of apostrophes and articles is consistent. Increasing the accuracy of your sentence construction will significantly improve your score.
