Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the contemporary world, socialisation plays a crucial role in the individual's life to become happy and stress free. Many people believe that it is a great choice of spending some time with their work friends in their free time or weekends, however, others are believed that it is very important to maintain a gap between working and social life. I will discuss the both views in the upcoming paragraphs along with my opinion.

One the one hand side, socialise with work colleagues on the weekends help the people to built stronger connection with them because they own their trust and share the common goods. To exemplify, individuals from the same company give treats and gifts on the festive season make them to gain their trust and built their relationship more stronger. Additionally, spending some free time with their work friends help them to create a bridge between their families as they exchange their thoughts and ideas on social bases.

On the other hand side, keep their working life separate from social life also benefit the people in terms of privacy because many people are shy and introvert, so they want their life private. For instance, if a person are not comfortable to share their personal life and family matters with their colleagues, they will prefer to make a distance from socialisation. In addtion to this, it will also create a wall between the working friends as some people have mentality to judges the others on the basis of their behaviour. Thus, it is very important to keep their working life completely separate from social life.

In the conclusion, there is no doubt, spending some quality time with their work colleagues help them to gain their trust and make their relationship better, but there are some consequence of sharing their social life with work friends as they are going to be judgemental in some situations. In my opion opinion, it is great idea of socialise with the work friends during weekends because it will create a bridge between two families and friends to live happier life in the long run.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of socialising for team cohesion and the importance of privacy for introverted individuals. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why colleagues might be 'judgemental' is vague and could be better supported with more specific examples. The position is consistent throughout, but the depth of analysis remains at a surface level, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand side', 'Additionally', and 'In the conclusion'. However, there is some mechanical and occasionally inaccurate use of these devices. For example, 'On the one hand side' is non-standard, and the transition between ideas within paragraphs can feel slightly repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences is sometimes hindered by grammatical errors, which makes the progression of ideas feel a bit disjointed at times.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary', 'introvert', and 'judgemental'. However, there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'common goods' (likely meaning common ground), 'built their relationship more stronger' (redundant comparative), and 'mentality to judges'. These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a limited range and a lack of precision in word usage.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'others are believed', 'if a person are not comfortable') and article usage. Some sentences are awkward, such as 'socialise with work colleagues... help the people to built'. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar structures prevents the response from achieving a higher score. Punctuation is generally functional but lacks sophistication.
