Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this fast-paced era, making bonds with co-workers helps a person enjoy office time, but others argue that always creating boundaries between personal and professional life is beneficial for people. In this essay, I will discuss both points of view and my perspective as stay away from colleagues in personal life is better for developing social bonds.

There are several reasons why people should socialize with office workers. The main purpose of this is the convenience of collaborating with them. This means that while sitting together in the evening, share the whole day's stress. With this, they can feel relaxed and clear their minds of the burden of office work. For example, during group projects, they can support other team members because of their personal attachment, and it is easy for them to share ideas without any hesitation. Therefore, colleagues can gain opportunities to understand and improve themselves in their areas of weakness, which will help them achieve success.

On the other hand, there are various drawbacks to making bonds with colleagues. An important disadvantage of this is leaking personal secrets in the workplace. If people open up to them, they are at risk of leaking personal details that can also disturb their professional life. For instance, some workers are selfish and egoistic by nature. They want to go ahead of others and use their relationships to mislead the management. So, it is not only the risk of losing a job but also a threat of reputation.

Conclusion, although socialization with co-workers provides work benefits and gives a friend circle but also carries the fear of losing a job and self-respect.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of collaboration and the risks of leaking personal secrets. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'leaking personal secrets' is a strong point, but it could be further supported with a more specific, realistic example rather than general statements about 'selfish' workers. The position is consistent, but the essay would benefit from deeper analysis to reach a higher band, as some points feel slightly repetitive or under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each viewpoint, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two sides of the argument. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'On the other hand' and 'Therefore', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'With this, they can feel relaxed'. Additionally, the concluding sentence is grammatically fragmented, which affects the flow of the final summary. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the use of cohesive devices could be more sophisticated and varied.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'collaborating', 'professional life', and 'reputation'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'making bonds' (better: 'building relationships') and 'creating boundaries' (better: 'maintaining boundaries'). The phrase 'as stay away from colleagues' in the introduction is grammatically awkward and impacts the precision of the expression. To improve, the student should focus on more natural collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles, prepositions, and sentence fragments. For example, 'Conclusion, although socialization... provides work benefits and gives a friend circle but also carries...' is a run-on sentence with missing subjects and incorrect structure. Other errors include 'as stay away from' instead of 'staying away from' and 'the convenience of collaborating with them' being slightly disconnected from the previous sentence. These errors do not usually impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
