Student answer (Band 6.0)

In modern time zone, few people believe that hangout with work colleagues on weekends and evenings fills refreshment while many individual thought not to mix with work place environment and keep social life personal. However, I totally agree with a former view, this essay shall explain both the view with the relevant example where required.

To begin with, socialising too much with the work colleague can blur the line between personal and a professional relationships. Personal problems or social drama can spill into the work, affecting professionalism and objectivity. For example, many individual have a tendency to poke their nose in others personal problem, not to help them but to make fun. In addition, people feel too much pressure to attend social events, causing resentment rather than closeness. Many folks lack behind in their success after diverting their focus from family and personal responsibilities.

On the other hand, it is good to spend time with colleague, which reduce workplace stress. People who know each other outside formal settings tend to communicate more openly, ask for help more readily and resolve misunderstanding faster. For instance, many opportunities such as project invitations, mentorship and promotions are arise through informal relationships rather than formal performance review. Shared meals, games or casual outing create a sense of belonging which studies often link to higher job satisfaction and lower staff turnover.

I think being close with colleague increase knowledge, creativity and collaboration boost individual confidence, whereas living in small circle with no personal sharing can sometime lead to a serious mental health issues.

To conclude, spending time with office colleague on days off is equally important as keeping some problem personal to maintain a better personal and a professional relationship.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While the second body paragraph offers relevant points about workplace stress and networking, the first paragraph relies on generalizations about 'social drama' and 'poking noses' rather than exploring the professional implications of the topic in depth. The introduction is slightly confusing as it states the writer agrees with the 'former view' (socializing), but the body paragraphs seem to present a balanced view that leans toward the benefits of socializing. To reach a higher band, ensure that your position is consistently maintained and that arguments are supported with more nuanced, logical reasoning rather than anecdotal generalizations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of referencing is occasionally weak, and some transitions feel mechanical. For instance, the link between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, there are minor issues with sentence-level cohesion, such as the phrase 'this essay shall explain both the view', which is slightly awkward. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the flow between sentences could be improved for better readability.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'fills refreshment' (instead of 'provides refreshment'), 'lack behind' (instead of 'lag behind'), and 'are arise' (a grammatical error affecting lexical accuracy). While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'professionalism', 'objectivity', and 'staff turnover', the overall range is limited. To improve, focus on using collocations correctly and avoiding informal phrasing like 'poking their nose' or 'many folks'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('many individual thought', 'colleague increase', 'are arise') and article usage errors ('the work colleague', 'a serious mental health issues'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing. To achieve a higher band, you should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with pluralization and verb tenses.
