Student answer (Band 6.0)

In modern times, there is an ongoing debate regarding socialization among employees. According to some people, it is ideal to socialize with your work colleagues during non working hours while others believes that it is better to keep your work and social life separate. In this essay, I will be stating my views on both sides and after concluding why going with the hybrid approach is the most feasible way.

On the first hand, socializing with coworkers outside workplace can offer several benefits like an increase in team bonding and efficient communications. Moreover, with more interactions among employees outside work environment can ultimately build better team coordinations as they will be communicating things outside of the project as this can help in understanding more of a person than just being a team mate. This can increase in trust among them and can also reflect in achieving more efficient team projects with the help of better team work.

On the other hand, sometimes these meetings can lead to a very strong friendships sometimes and when it is time to anyone to change their company or life has something else to offer to them, it gets very hard for those teammates to separate. In addition to this, some workers started to takes their work lightly and can start to depend on their fellow friend workers for their own work too ,as many of the friends do in real life, thus creating unnecessary responsibilities and workload for that one person.

In conclusion, having an hybrid approach is the best way where you can enjoy the positives like better trust and team work while still keeping some of your personal boundaries where you are not felt overburdened.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the second body paragraph discusses the downsides of socializing, but the points regarding 'strong friendships' and 'workload' are slightly underdeveloped and could benefit from more specific examples or deeper analysis. The position is consistent throughout, but the essay would be stronger if the 'hybrid approach' mentioned in the conclusion had been more explicitly integrated into the body paragraphs as a balanced solution rather than just a concluding thought.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'On the first hand', 'Moreover', and 'In addition to this' are used to link sentences and paragraphs. However, some of the transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'On the first hand' (which should be 'On the one hand'). Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'when it is time to anyone to change their company', which disrupts the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common collocations like 'ongoing debate' and 'personal boundaries'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'non working hours' (should be hyphenated) and 'having an hybrid approach' (should be 'a hybrid'). The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the quality of the writing. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('others believes'), incorrect preposition usage ('socializing with coworkers outside workplace'), and awkward phrasing ('when it is time to anyone to change their company'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
