Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people think that it's good idea to socialize with work colleagues during evenings and weekends while other people believe that it's important to keep working life completely separate from social life. people who think that socializing with work colleagues after work hours or on day off is important as they want to make the work environment for refreshing were they can easily communicate with each other and work would be more enjoyable at the same time socializing with colleagues let them know other person habits even expertise from which they can learn and improve their own task and work habits. For example in Japanese company Manager usually socialize with their team members on dinner & drinks. Sometime Mangers invite thier colleagues to play golf with them.

Now on the other hand some people think it's important to keep working life completely separate social life. Their are many reason behind thinking that way as being to much socialize with the work colleagues can create biases which can create problems such as more talented employees can get unnoticed as all the attention can be focused on the other employees with mediocre talent solely based on that they socialize with the employers. Second reason is that sometime socializing minor conflicts can affect the work environment like not able to do proper communication which will affect the work and their lives as well. I also believe that it should be separate from social life as in past my permotion was given to someone else just because he was friend with employers who played golf together.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of workplace bias and team bonding. However, the development is somewhat limited. The explanation of why socializing creates bias is a good point, but it could be expanded with more nuanced reasoning. The personal example regarding the promotion is a strong addition that supports the position well. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully explored with more depth and that the introduction and conclusion are more clearly defined to frame the discussion effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear transition from the first view to the second. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, the transition 'Second reason is that' and 'Now on the other hand' are functional but basic. There are also some issues with sentence-level cohesion, where ideas are sometimes linked in a way that feels slightly disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next would significantly enhance the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'mediocre talent' and 'expertise', which is positive. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'make the work environment for refreshing' (likely meant 'more refreshing') and 'being to much socialize' (should be 'socializing too much'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. Expanding the range of collocations would help move the score higher.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Manager usually socialize'), missing articles (e.g., 'in Japanese company'), and incorrect word forms (e.g., 'permotion'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with missing commas in complex sentences. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning, they are frequent enough to indicate a lack of control over more complex structures. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be a beneficial next step.
