Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people believes that spending time with their coworkers is a good way to socialize after their working hours, while other thinks that the professional life should be kept separate from social life. This essay will discuss both opinions.

To begin with, being a socialise is good thing and proves very helpful at certain points. Mixing up with people brings more understanding about each other, especially when someone is working in another country. For example, a person moved to another nation for better job and get able to manage his things easily just by connecting with people from his workplace. Most of the time they are the first friends for a new person. An individual get chance to know more about other's culture and tradition. Infact, by making good bonds with colleagues give chance to learn things faster regarding our work. In addition, this can help one to grow faster.

Moving further, there is another perspective of this statement where people believe to keep personal life separate. Becoming more close to someone can disturb one's private life. When someone started telling everything of their life routine then the other person might can take disadvantage of his/her situation. Nobody can trust blindly on someone, especially whom we met at workplace. As, one cannot judge the mentality of others and how they take our things with what perspective. A person can feel stress and disturb during job if their privacy reveals.

To be concluded, I believe that being socialise with colleagues after working hours is good and has more positive aspects rather than negative. One should make boundaries between two and should be aware regarding things to reveal.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of networking for expatriates and the potential risks to privacy. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'learning things faster' is mentioned but not fully explained with a concrete example. The essay covers all parts of the prompt, but the depth of analysis is inconsistent, which prevents it from reaching a higher band. The position is maintained throughout, but the supporting arguments could be more robustly expanded to fully satisfy the requirements for a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is a clear progression of ideas throughout the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', and 'Moving further', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'Moving further, there is another perspective of this statement'. Additionally, there are some issues with referencing and sentence-level cohesion, such as the phrase 'how they take our things with what perspective', which is slightly confusing. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the structure is coherent.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'mentality' and 'perspective', but there are also instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'being a socialise' (should be 'socializing') and 'get able to manage' (should be 'is able to manage'). Some phrasing is repetitive, and the range is somewhat limited, relying on basic structures to convey meaning. While the errors do not impede communication, they do highlight a lack of precision and flexibility in word choice.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Many people believes', 'other thinks'), incorrect verb forms ('someone started telling'), and awkward phrasing ('might can take disadvantage'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of errors in basic grammar structures is noticeable. While the meaning remains clear, the control over complex structures is inconsistent, and the number of errors prevents the essay from achieving a higher score in this criterion.
