Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on socialising with colleagues and providing a personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. For instance, the first body paragraph argues that socialising reduces stress and prevents disease, citing a somewhat unconvincing statistic ('90 percentage of workers, make the body healthy which talking with friends'). Similarly, the counter-argument focuses heavily on privacy issues without exploring deeper nuances of work-life balance. While a clear position is stated and supported, the arguments remain somewhat superficial and under-developed, placing the response solidly at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which helps structure the writing, but the overall progression of ideas is hindered by a lack of sophisticated cohesive devices and poor punctuation. The student uses basic transitional markers like 'firstly i will discuss' and 'On the contrast'. However, referencing is frequently unclear, and sentences are often awkwardly joined without appropriate punctuation or conjunctions (e.g., lowercase letters at the start of sentences, missing full stops, and erratic comma spacing). Cohesive devices are used mechanically rather than flexibly. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak. These features align closely with the Band 5 descriptor for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a limited range of vocabulary that is minimally adequate for the task. Words related to the topic are frequently repeated, such as 'socialise', 'colleagues', 'privacy', and 'stress'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation, such as 'seperately' instead of 'separately', 'colleauges', 'happeir', and the phrase 'reduce their stress from the brain'. The misuse of vocabulary occasionally causes slight strain for the reader, though the core meaning usually remains decipherable. Overall, the lexical range and accuracy fit the Band 5 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical structure of the essay is heavily flawed, featuring a limited range of structures where attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in basic grammar, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. Examples include 'Making connection with your colleagues is very important in their life' (pronoun mismatch) and 'if they will not talking with colleauges' (incorrect verb form). Capitalisation is absent at the beginning of sentences ('some individuals', 'firstly i will'). These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a lack of control over basic sentence patterns, corresponding to a Band 4.5 or 5.0, rounded to 5.0 based on positive marking for communicative intent.
