Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people believed that meeting with co-workers during evening and weekends is one of the best way to know them personally while others argue that they should a maintain clear boundaries between working life and social life. Although meeting colleagues outside the workplace can help build stronger relationships, I believe that maintaining a clear boundary between work and personal life is more beneficial because it allows people to relax, spend time with their families, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Socializing with work colleagues on weekends can strengthen friendships. This is because they can know each others well by knowing their interests, favourate foods, places and so on.

For example, some people spend quality times with their co-workers after completing shift, which allow them to imrove thier coordination and communication at workplace. As a result, employees prefer to go for coffee during evening.

On the other hand, maintaning a clean boundaries between work and social life is essential for employees. This is mainly because they should spend quality times with their friends and family memebers instead of work colleagues. For instance, the majority of people feel tired and bored after work, so it is crucial for them to share some time with thier close people and relieve mental stress. Therefore, keeping working life separate from social life would help them to relax and reduce their workload.

In conclusion, it is a best way to meet with co-workers on weekends because it can build stronger frienship, and provide opportunities to know each other personally. However, in my view, I believe that maintain healthy work-life balance is vital because it allows them to spend enough time with thier family members.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on socialising with colleagues and providing a clear personal position. The introduction and body paragraphs successfully outline the benefits of both social interaction outside of work and maintaining clear boundaries. However, some ideas lack deep extension. For example, the statement that employees go for coffee during the evening is stated rather than fully developed with broader implications. While the position is clear throughout, the support tends to over-generalise slightly in places. Overall, the task is adequately handled, placing it comfortably in the Band 6.5 to 7 range. Because ideas are clearly relevant and the position is consistent, a score of 6.5 is appropriate for the slight under-development of supporting examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay displays a clear logical organisation and overall progression. Information and ideas are arranged coherently, with paragraphs dedicated to introduction, the opposing view, the student's viewpoint, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'This is because', 'For example', and 'On the other hand' are utilised to connect ideas, although some referencing is occasionally repetitive or mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate distinct arguments. While the logical flow is easy to follow, the minor inaccuracies in cohesive transitions and referencing prevent the essay from achieving a higher band. Consequently, a score of 6.5 reflects the clear overall structure balanced against somewhat formulaic cohesive links.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'coordination', 'communication', 'boundaries', and 'relieve mental stress'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'favourate' instead of 'favourite', 'imrove' instead of 'improve', 'thier' instead of 'their', and 'maintaning' instead of 'maintaining'. Additionally, phrasing such as 'clean boundaries' instead of 'clear boundaries' shows occasional inaccuracies in collocation. Although these errors do not impede communication and the writer demonstrates a sufficient range for general tasks, the frequency of spelling slips keeps the lexical score at a Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating conditional or subordinate clauses such as 'Although meeting colleagues outside the workplace can help...' and 'This is mainly because they should spend...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'Some people believed' instead of 'Some people believe', 'one of the best way' instead of 'one of the best ways', and 'they should a maintain' where the article 'a' is intrusive. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but grammatical slips persist across sentences. Because the errors occur regularly alongside attempted complex structures, the performance aligns best with the Band 6 descriptors.
