Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt regarding socialising with colleagues versus keeping personal and professional lives separate, and it provides a clear personal opinion in the body and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, phrases like 'human is a social animal' and 'building up relations is always fruitful' are stated without deep extension. While the main positions are touched upon, the supporting examples are brief and slightly simplistic, such as the mention of two workmates playing golf. This places the response comfortably at Band 5.5, as it addresses the task and presents a clear position, but the ideas remain under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay has a basic organizational structure with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, two body viewpoints, the author's perspective, and the conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by cohesion errors and punctuation misuse, such as the semicolon usage in 'then; there is possibility'. Reference words are also occasionally confusing or inaccurate, as seen in 'my people avoid to meet there work professionals'. Paragraphing is present, but logical flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical or abrupt. Overall, the organizational framework meets the criteria for Band 5.0, where there is some organization but noticeable flaws in cohesive devices and overall progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, featuring frequent word choice and collocation errors. For instance, the student writes 'hang with coworkers on your day-offs' instead of 'hanging out with coworkers on your days off', and uses 'there' instead of 'their' and 'they're'. Other awkward phrasing includes 'work professionals' and 'office vibes'. While the vocabulary is adequate to communicate the basic arguments, the range is limited and noticeable errors in word formation and spelling cause some difficulty for the reader. This performance aligns with Band 5.0, reflecting a restricted lexicon and frequent lexical inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The text contains a very limited range of structures and frequent grammatical errors. Simple sentence forms dominate, and attempts at complex structures frequently result in serious structural and agreement errors. Examples include 'While, many people thought, there should be a fine line', 'human is a social animal', and 'if two workmates enjoying playing golf'. Subject-verb agreement, article use, and prepositional errors are pervasive throughout the text. These errors consistently strain the reader's comprehension and indicate that control over basic grammar is inconsistent. This firmly places the grammatical performance at Band 4.5 to 5.0, reflecting limited range and frequent errors.
