Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—socialising with colleagues versus keeping work and personal life separate—and presents a clear personal opinion throughout the essay. The student explores reasons such as enhancing work productivity and brainstorming for problem-solving on one side, and spending quality family time and personal relaxation on the other. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive in places. While examples are provided (such as Google having leisure rooms), they are brief and underdeveloped. The overall stance is maintained, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor where all parts of the task are addressed, though some ideas remain under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a clear attempt at logical organisation, with distinct paragraphs addressing the introduction, the first view, the second view, and the conclusion. However, the cohesion within and between sentences is often faulty and mechanical. Phrases like 'One the other hand' contain typos, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as pronoun shifts ('if person spend time... they'). Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion can be repetitive and disjointed. Overall, the arrangement provides a coherent structure overall, but cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or awkward, placing this response firmly in the Band 6 descriptor range.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'brainstorming', 'productivity', and 'organization'. However, there are frequent spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'cruticial' instead of crucial, 'personel' instead of personal, 'seprate' instead of separate, 'bachmates' instead of batchmates/colleagues, and 'alots' instead of a lot of. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they noticeably restrict the precision of the argument, which reflects the characteristics of Band 5 lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ('if person spend time... they can easily solve...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement ('every person do work', 'other person think') and missing articles. Punctuation is also problematic in several sentences, with spacing errors around commas and periods. Although these errors rarely completely impede communication, they occur with high frequency and affect the readability of the text, fitting the Band 5 descriptor where frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader.
