Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that people should spend time with their co-workers when they have a day off, and after completing their work, while others say that individuals should keep their personal and professional life separated. I believe that spending more time with colleagues helps to increase company's productivity, whereas it builds stronger relationships between family members if working life is kept separated from social life.

To commence, spending more with colleagues helps to boost company's producitvity. When people meet with their co-workers after working hours, they share their ideas, feelings, and emotions with any pressure and stress. This not only leads to developing a stronger relationship, but also their team work improves work productivity which helps to increase comapny's income. For example, in developed countries, the majority of people enjoy their weekends with their colleagues, as a result, their communication skills become better than before and cooperate with each other while working. Therefore, I think that more meetings helps people to bring together, and connect to different culture.

On the other hand, keeping work life separated from personal life helps to understand family matters. If people devote their all day with their co-workers, they would never know about family's issues. As a result, relationships can be damaged between parents and children. For example, in Canada, most of children live separated from their parents because parents do not have enough amount of time to solve family issues, as a result, people loose their loved one. However, I believe that family is more important for children's development so after working hours, parnets should spend time with their families.

In conslusion, although, spending time with co-workers after work improves comapny's productivity and good cooperation while working, the issues of family can not ne ignored because it leads to rela

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—socialising with colleagues versus keeping work and social life separate—and presents a clear personal opinion. The ideas are generally relevant, discussing company productivity versus family relationships. However, the development of ideas tends to be somewhat superficial and unsupported by genuinely robust examples. For instance, the claim that 'in developed countries, the majority of people enjoy their weekends with their colleagues' is an over-generalisation. Furthermore, the response is slightly incomplete as it trails off at the very end ('because it leads to rela'). Despite these minor flaws and the incomplete conclusion, the task is addressed well enough to meet the criteria for Band 6.5, though extending the arguments further would yield a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The text is arranged with a clear overall structure, divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a concluding attempt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points of view. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'To commence' and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and cohesion occasionally become faulty or mechanical, as seen in minor awkwardness linking clauses. The conclusion is abruptly cut off mid-sentence ('because it leads to rela'), which impacts the overall progression and logical flow at the end of the text. Overall, the organisational framework is clear, supporting a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'productivity', 'co-workers', and 'professional life'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('producitvity', 'comapny's', 'parnets', 'loose' instead of 'lose') and some minor word choice inaccuracies. Additionally, there is noticeable repetition of phrases like 'family issues' and 'working hours'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to a Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional structures ('If people devote their all day...') and relative clauses. There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the response, including missing articles ('with any pressure' instead of 'without'), preposition misuse ('devote their all day with'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('most of children live'). Despite these errors, the meaning remains mostly clear and communication is not seriously impeded. The control over grammar aligns well with the Band 6.0 descriptors.
