Student answer (Band 6.5)

There is an ongoing debate about whether it is good idea to socialise with colleagues after working hours or and weekends. However, others think that ot is their personal time. They should maintain a work life balance. This essay will examine both perspectives before presenting my viewpoint.

One the one hand, brainstome is quite easier during evening and weekends when people sit with their team members in a relaxed environment so they can make maximum benefit out of it to solve challenging problems. Moreover, it is one of the best ways to maintain cordial relationship when they meet outside the work place and share their ideas and opinions. For instance, the companies always arrange dinners and evening parties so that employees can be more comfortable with each other.

On the other hand, critics argue that it is their personal time to spend with their loves ones. They maintain a distance between their personal and professional lives because they donot want to hamper their professional reputation and understand clearly about their convience. Moreover, several working professionals have introverted personalities. Consequently, they prefer to live their non-working hours and holidays as per their wish.

As per my opinion, A balanced approach should be used to maintain personal and professional relationship. People can meet their colleagues occassionally in a year and can understand each other. On the contrary, they can spent most of their leaves with their families and friends.

In conclusion, It is beneficial to coordinate with other team members to get promotions and understand appraisals. Correspondingly, they should draw a line so that their family lives should not suffer in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on socialising with colleagues and providing a clear personal opinion. The introduction outlines the two perspectives and your stance. Body paragraphs explore relevant ideas, such as brainstorming and team bonding on one side, versus personal time and introverted personalities on the other. Your opinion is further reinforced in the conclusion. However, some ideas lack full extension and development; for instance, the point about company dinners could be expanded with a concrete example of how it aids productivity. Despite this mild under-development, your position remains clear throughout, and the task is adequately fulfilled, corresponding to a Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas. You have used standard structural signposts such as 'One the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate each stage of the response. However, there are some mechanical transitions and minor referencing issues, such as 'brainstome is quite easier' and slightly repetitive sentence beginnings. Cohesive devices are generally adequate, but lack the flexibility and smooth flow required for higher bands. Overall, the organisational structure is clear and easy to follow, placing this response solidly in the Band 6.5 category.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating your ideas about work-life balance. You attempt less common lexical items such as 'professional reputation', 'introverted personalities', and 'appraisals'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'good idea' missing an article ('a good idea'), 'brainstome', 'loves ones' instead of 'loved ones', 'convience', and 'occassionally'. Furthermore, spelling errors like 'donot' and 'occassionally' detract from precision. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your main arguments, these lexical errors and limitations prevent the response from achieving a higher band score, making Band 6.0 an appropriate evaluation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional-style ideas effectively. Examples of complex structures include 'This essay will examine both perspectives before presenting my viewpoint' and 'Consequently, they prefer to live their non-working hours and holidays as per their wish.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the response, such as missing articles ('it is good idea'), incorrect prepositional phrases ('As per my opinion'), and awkward phrasing ('understand clearly about their convience'). While these errors do not severely impede communication, they occur often enough to demonstrate limited grammatical control compared to higher bands, aligning best with a Band 6.0.
