IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people think that it’s a good idea to socialise with work colleagues during evenings and weekends. Other people think it’s important to keep working life completely separate from social life.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, people are busy in their work life. Some people think that it is very important to interact with each other after the job or in weekends. While, other thinks that we have to maintain distance between personal and professional life. Both aspects will be well elaborated in ensuing write-up.

Discussing the former view, where individuals believe that meeting colleagues after work is a good for mind fresh because people working with each other around seven to eight hours. So, they have a better understanding and people have chance to increase the group. However, after work people is going for club, party or dinner in the weekends. So, they gain be better to each other trust and loyalty towards each other which gives them better environment in the office too. Thus, people can do good work at their office. Moreover, people have a stress towards their work because individuals have responsibilities of their families. Making a good friends gives them stress-free and reduce their work-load too.

On the other hand, those who support later view have their own thoughts. Firstly, they believe to make distance between work and personal life is good for their own safety. In recent time, people can not easily trust the strangers. They believe that share your data with unknown person cause trouble for themselves. However, people can do anything for money. If sometimes you told anyone that you are going for holiday for some days which is not appropriate way. Because, in your absence they can do robbery at your home. Moreover, many humans do not feel comfortable to make a new friends. They are very shy and not extrovert person. People feel safe with the their known people.

To conclude, making new friends from office which is good to help in your work and reduce your stress but on the other hand, to share your personal information is not good for your own safety.
