Student answer (Band 6.0)

Becoming social is crucial to live a happy life. It is believed by some individuals that it is the best way to socialise with workers after working hours. However, others argue that it is essential to keep professional life separate from social life. While both views have vaild arguments, I largely agree with the latter view because it can imbalance working and social life.

To begin with, working individuals often spend eight to ten hours at their workplace and spending more time with each other can allow them to understand perspectives of each other. This may also reduce personal issue among them becuase it allows them to discuss problems in a free time, particularly during evenings and weekends. The more time colleagues spend together, the more likely they are to develop better understanding. For example, a working individual can clear his doubts effectively with their team members if they socilise with them after work hours. On the other hand, socialising with office employees can disrupt the balance between personal and professional life because some people may feel uncomfortable to share their idea and experiences with their co-workers. This mainly because many people behave differently at their workplace than in a social life. After knowing this about their colleagues there are chances that many team members would change their views about each other, and start behaving more friendly in a professional environment. This will not only impact their professional life but also personal life simultaneously. Therefore, it is important to keep corporate and social life seperate. In conclusion, although socialising with working partners might have some benefits, I strongly believe that people should avoid socialising with colleagues. This is because it can lead to imbalance between both lifes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on socialising with colleagues and clearly stating your own opinion. Your position is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are generally relevant, such as discussing how hanging out with co-workers can improve mutual understanding or, conversely, how it might blur personal and professional boundaries. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or repetitive, particularly in the body paragraphs where points about workplace behaviour and relationships are circular. Nonetheless, you have fulfilled the requirements of the prompt by presenting a balanced discussion and a clear conclusion, earning a solid Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing viewpoints. However, cohesion is occasionally faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'On the other hand' introduces the second viewpoint, but referencing within the paragraphs is sometimes unclear, such as the pronoun use in sentences like 'This mainly because many people behave differently...'. Additionally, the spacing formatting in your draft indicates some mechanical layout issues. Logical progression is present, but more precise cohesive devices would elevate the score. Therefore, a Band 6.0 is appropriate.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common phrases such as 'professional life', 'imbalance between personal and professional life', and 'corporate and social life'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'vaild' instead of 'valid', 'becuase' instead of 'because', and misspelling 'separate' as 'seperate'. Furthermore, some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'personal issue' instead of 'personal issues'. While these minor lexical errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the score from reaching a higher band. Overall, your lexical control sits comfortably at a Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some command over subordinate clauses, such as 'While both views have vaild arguments, I largely agree...' and 'The more time colleagues spend together, the more likely they are to develop better understanding.' There are, however, some recurring grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'it is the best way to socialise with workers after working hours' and missing auxiliary verbs in 'This mainly because many people...'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but grammatical slips prevent the sentences from being consistently error-free. The mixture of successfully handled complex structures alongside these noticeable errors points to a Band 6.0.
