Student answer (Band 6.5)
Socialising is how people connect. Gone are the days when there was limited internet availability for people. Today, the internet has made everyone's life both stress-free and easy. This, in my opinion, has created both a positive and negative impact on how people socialise with each other.
Work nowadays relies heavily on the internet. If the internet connection is lost, the world seems to shut down. While some people prefer to socialise with work colleagues during the evenings and weekends, some believe it is important to keep working life separate from social life.
People spend most of their day at work, and hence having a get-together with colleagues outside work eases the pressure and tension between two individuals. Outside the professional world, they meet each other as humans, which ultimately strengthens the trust and bond between two individuals. Some see it as a very positive change as the work environment becomes more fun and stress-free for them. It becomes easier for them to reach out to each other for any help.
On the other hand, some people believe it is a good idea to keep work and social life separate. There is no denying that in today's world, it is easy to spread news via the internet. I can sometimes spread misinformation about someone online. Some people believe that involving work people in your personal life allows them to use your vulnerability as a weapon against you in a work environment.
As much as I am an introvert, I do believe socialising with your colleagues is important outside work. It helps you to understand your colleagues in an environment where there is no work stress and where you are just human to each other. However, I do believe it is important to gatekeep important information about your life if you do not want it to go public accidentally.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both the benefits and drawbacks of socialising with colleagues, and clearly states the writer's own opinion in the conclusion. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the discussion on how work relationships improve outside the office is reasonably well supported, but the counter-argument regarding internet privacy and digital misinformation feels slightly tangential to the core prompt about socialising versus separating work and private life. To reach a higher level, all main ideas should be equally extended and supported with fully relevant examples without drifting into peripheral issues like online news sharing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the introduction through the body paragraphs to the final personal stance. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as the advantages of socialising versus the disadvantages. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or slightly faulty. For example, the opening sentences regarding internet availability feel disconnected from the actual prompt about work and social life, showing that referencing and logical transitions between opening thoughts need smoother management. To achieve a higher standard, cohesive devices should be used more flexibly and seamlessly to bind the introductory context directly to the central topic.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The vocabulary demonstrated is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the writer's ideas. The student attempts some less common and functional items such as 'stress-free', 'vulnerability', and 'gatekeep', which show an awareness of style. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'I can sometimes spread misinformation' where 'It can sometimes spread misinformation' was likely intended, and minor awkwardness in collocations. The range is sufficient for some precision, but occasional errors in lexical selection prevent it from reaching a higher category. Incorporating a wider variety of sophisticated, precise phrasing and ensuring flawless word forms will elevate this aspect further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
The writing displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating frequent error-free sentences and solid overall control. Structures like 'While some people prefer to socialise...' and 'If the internet connection is lost...' are handled well. There are occasional errors in grammar and punctuation, such as pronoun clarity and minor prepositional slips, but they rarely impede communication. To attain a higher band, the writer would need to demonstrate a wider range of more sophisticated complex structures consistently, coupled with a higher proportion of error-free sentences throughout the entire piece.
