Student answer (Band 7.0)
Socialising is a very important part of our daily lives. While some people believe that it is a wonderful idea to socialise with the fellow colleagues on weekends, others hold the opinion that it is better to keep social life completely separate from working life. I concur that there is no harm in socialising with work colleagues on weekends and after office hours, as it fosters freindly relations which lead to a better work environment.
Opponents assert that social life during evenings and weekends should be confined to relatives and close friends. This allows people to relax and take a break from their work life. Socialising with co-workers even on weekends does not really allow them to unwind. For example, work colleagues who socialise in evenings after the office timings would inevitably discuss about work-related matters and are unable to get their minds off it. So, it is important to spend leisure time on weekends with close friends and family to fully relax.
People who support the idea of socialising with co-workers elucidate that it fosters cordial relations among them. They tend to better understand each other and their personal circumstances, which will ultimately help to create a friendly and stress-free work environment where there is a better opportunity to learn from each other and seek their help. To illustrate, in my previous hospital, the work environment was very strict and fellow colleagues would hardly socialise with each other. As a result, I was unable to develop a friendly bond with my seniors, and I would never ask them for any help. This significantly impacted my learning as well. So, in my opinion, it is a very good idea to socialise with work colleagues to create a friendly work environment where everyone is helpful to fellow colleagues.
In conclusion, I reaffirm my conviction that although weekends and evenings should be spent with family and close friends but there is no harm in developing family realtions with co-workers. Spending a few hours with work colleagues on weekends or after work helps to create amicable relations with them which leads to a stress-free work environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on socialising with colleagues and providing a clear personal position throughout. The introduction outlines the writer's stance that socialising is beneficial, and the body paragraphs logically explore both sides. Opponents' views are supported by the point about needing to unwind away from work-related matters, while the supporting view is extended with a relevant, personal example from the writer's previous hospital experience. Ideas are well-supported, though the exploration of the opposing view tends to rely on a single main argument rather than multiple distinct facets. The position remains consistent and clear, meeting the expectations for a solid task response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
There is a clear logical organisation and progression throughout the essay, demonstrating a coherent overall arrangement. Paragraphing is used effectively, with distinct paragraphs dedicated to the introduction, the opposing view, the supporting view with its personal example, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Opponents assert', 'For example', and 'To illustrate' are used reasonably well to guide the reader through the arguments. However, referencing and transitions occasionally feel slightly mechanical, and the concluding sentence contains a minor slip in conjunction use ('family and close friends but there is no harm'), which prevents the cohesion from reaching a higher level of seamlessness.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate and sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, allowing for clear communication of ideas. Less common lexical items are attempted, such as 'concur', 'elucidate', 'cordial relations', and 'amicable relations', showing an awareness of style and collocation suitable for a work environment context. However, there are occasional word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as writing 'freindly' instead of friendly and using 'realtsions' or awkward phrases like 'developing family realtions'. These minor errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the vocabulary score from moving higher, as precision is occasionally compromised.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable command of grammar. The writer successfully uses complex structures such as relative clauses ('where there is a better opportunity to learn') and conditional-like or concessive structures ('although weekends and evenings should be spent...'). There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('the fellow colleagues' or 'in evenings') and minor punctuation slips around clauses and conjunctions. Nevertheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the sentence structures to remain clear and understandable throughout.
