Student answer (Band 5.5)

According to some people, one should have a social life with your colleagues. Spending time together after work or weekend parties should be there with the people you are working. On the other hand, as per some individuals there should be gap between your work life and your social life. I believe that having a good social relation with the people you are working with is really important as it makes your work place feels more familiar and everyone work together like a family.

Spending time with your workmates enchance your relationship which makes your group work easier. Moreover, those are the people with whom you spend most of your time. Having a good relation with them is very necessary. Also, this helps us to create a better friend circle as we are well known with those people becasue we meet them on a daily basis. I have a live example from my life. The person who took care of me when I was not well is my friend from my work place. Such people act as a family when you are far from your parents.

Whereas on the other side, according to some people social life and work life should be kept separate. Having friends from your work place brings office talks to home. This reduce your chance of meeting with new people. Specially, If you are a manager or at some higher position, there should a gap with your subordinates or your team as this helps act as sense of respect and make it easier to carry the job operations.

To sum up with, we should have a social life with your co-workers as this helps you to build a strong build with the people you work with. This also make you feel or work place as your second home when you are surrounded by the poeple you personally know.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on socialising with colleagues and providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the benefits of socialising are explored with a personal example about a supportive coworker, the counterargument concerning keeping work and social life separate is more limited and briefly stated. Some points, such as the mention of managers maintaining a gap with subordinates, are introduced but lack deeper elaboration or specific examples. Overall, the ideas are relevant and directly answer the prompt, but further extension on the opposing view would be required to achieve a higher level of development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the supporting arguments, the opposing view, and the final summary. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. Transitional phrases like 'According to some people', 'On the other hand', and 'Whereas on the other side' are repetitive or slightly awkward. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'this helps act as sense of respect', which detracts from the smooth flow of ideas between sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing enough range to communicate basic ideas about workplace relationships. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'subordinates', 'operations', and 'enhancement of relationship', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, form, and collocation. Examples include 'enchance' (enhancement/enhance), 'social relation' (social relationships), 'well known with those people' (familiar with those people), and 'strong build' (strong bond). Spelling and word-choice errors are present, but they do not severely impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to construct multi-clause sentences such as 'I believe that having a good social relation with the people you are working with is really important as it makes your work place feels more familiar.' There are, however, several errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement errors ('makes your work place feels'), missing articles ('at some higher position', 'as sense of respect'), incorrect prepositions ('gap with your subordinates'), and awkward phrasing. These errors are noticeable but rarely impede overall communication.
