Student answer (Band 6.0)

Every coin as two sides, as some people believe socialising on weekends and evenings with work colleagues is a good idea while some believe personal and professional life should be kept seperated. I personally think socialising does have it's key factors which is benefical in this fast pacing world. In this essay, I will discuss both of the perspective and provide my view point.

To begin with, creating a good relationship at our work zone is must for one. Spending time during our lunch/coffee breaks or sometimes on weekends with colleagues can improve teamwork and communication. Meeting our team members outside of the working zone help us to understand each other freely, reduces our stress and feel more connected towards our team. For instance, colleagues who have lunch together everyday may feel comfortable sharing ideas and giving suggestions to solve the problem at work.

On the other hand, some believe professional and personal life should be kept completely seperate. After spending almost half of the day at work, some people prefer to spend rest of the evening with their families or friends. Maintaining this seperation will help them to acheive a healthy work-life balance. For example, involving colleagues sometimes adds-up unecessary office loads and chaos which can effect their personal life also.

In conclusion, employees should be free to decide how much time they want to spend time with their colleagues. Socialising can strenghten professional relationships whereas setting boundaries can help us protect our personal family time. Employees should be free to decide how much time they want to spend with their colleagues. I beleive balance between two approaces is the best solution for this.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear personal position: you support socialising while also favouring boundaries, concluding that employees should choose what suits them. The benefits of informal contact are explained through teamwork, communication and sharing ideas, with a relevant lunch example. The opposing view is also relevant, particularly the need for family time and work-life balance. However, this side is less fully developed: the claim that colleagues add “unecessary office loads and chaos” is not clearly explained, and the essay could show more specifically how socialising might blur boundaries. Develop each view with a fuller explanation or example, and make your balanced opinion more explicit throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “To begin with” and “On the other hand” make the change of perspective easy to follow, and ideas generally progress logically within each paragraph. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, the conclusion repeats the point that employees should decide how much time to spend with colleagues, and the final two sentences express the position in slightly different ways. Some links between ideas are also abrupt, particularly the move from work-life balance to “office loads and chaos.” Remove repetition and connect claims more explicitly to improve flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “teamwork,” “communication,” “work-life balance,” “boundaries” and “professional relationships.” These choices help convey the main ideas, and the reader can understand your position. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “seperated,” “benefical,” “acheive,” “strenghten” and “approaces.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “work zone,” “fast pacing world” and “adds-up unecessary office loads.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, such as “workplace,” “fast-paced world” and “creates unnecessary work-related pressure.” This would make your vocabulary more controlled and appropriate to an IELTS essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrastive opening and clauses introduced by “while,” “whereas” and “which.” Most of the meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “Every coin as two sides” needs the verb “has,” and “creating a good relationship at our work zone is must” is missing an article before “must” and has an awkward singular construction. In “Meeting our team members … help us,” the subject requires “helps”; “reduces our stress and feel” also needs parallel grammatical forms. The conclusion repeats “spend time” unnecessarily. Review subject–verb agreement, articles and parallel structures, while continuing to practise varied sentence patterns.
