Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In modern society, people hold differing views about professional life. Many Individuals believe that communicating with co-workers on weekends and after work hours is a better approach; others argue that it is crucial not to combine professional life and personal life. This essay will discuss both perspectives before presenting my own opinion.

On the one hand, supporters of the first view claim that gathering is beneficial for gaining knowledge. This is mainly because fellow employees know the weaknesses. As a result, you can discuss after work because, with a tight office schedule, he might not express ideas well. Furthermore, sometimes people have similar personalities and enjoy each other's company. For example, many colleagues organize a weekend trip; meanwhile, they share different ideas and gain knowledge as well. Which highlights of this approach.

On the other hand, those who oppose the second view believe that quality time with family is essential after work. They argue that after the toxic work pressure, they should spend time with family, which can help them feel relaxed. For instance, after work, many supporters go for outings with their spouse and balance both lives. Moreover, employees can play with children to help them to do homework. Hence, after keeping both lives separate, they can fulfill all responsibilities. This perspective equally worthy of consideration.

In my opinion, the idea that people should keep their work and social lives separate is more convincing. This is because it allows people to devote time to family and reduce mental stress. Although the opposing argument has merit, it is less practical in real-life situations.

In conclusion, both life views have valid arguments. However, I believe that individuals should distinguish between professional and personal life is more responsible position due to its long-term benefits.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear opinion: you find keeping work and social life separate more convincing. The family-time and stress points are relevant, and the examples about outings and helping children with homework support that view. The first perspective is also included, with colleagues sharing ideas outside work. However, some reasoning is unclear or only briefly developed—for example, “fellow employees know the weaknesses” does not explain clearly how socialising helps, and the weekend-trip example needs a more specific outcome. The conclusion repeats your position but its final sentence is grammatically unclear. Develop each main point with a clearer explanation and a directly relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In my opinion” makes the progression easy to follow. This already gives the essay a coherent framework. Some links within paragraphs, however, are mechanical or unclear. “Which highlights of this approach” is a sentence fragment and does not connect smoothly to the example before it; “Hence, after keeping both lives separate” also leaves the relationship between the preceding examples and the conclusion uncertain. The conclusion largely repeats the opinion paragraph. Use clearer references and explain how each example supports its point, while varying transitions and avoiding repeated summaries.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “professional life,” “co-workers,” “quality time,” “mental stress,” and “responsibilities.” Some less common expressions, such as “crucial” and “long-term benefits,” show an effort to express ideas precisely. At times, however, word choice or collocation is inaccurate or awkward: “gathering is beneficial for gaining knowledge,” “after the toxic work pressure,” and “both life views” do not sound natural in context. “Many Individuals” also has an unnecessary capital letter. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they reduce precision. Prefer familiar, natural collocations and check whether each phrase expresses the intended relationship clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including a contrast clause (“Although the opposing argument has merit”) and a relative clause (“which can help them feel relaxed”). Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. “Which highlights of this approach” is an incomplete sentence, while “I believe that individuals should distinguish between professional and personal life is more responsible position” has an unclear clause structure and is missing an article. There are also shifts in pronouns in “fellow employees know the weaknesses… he might not express ideas well,” and “help them to do homework” has an unclear reference. Review sentence boundaries, clause construction, articles, and consistent pronoun reference; these changes would make your varied structures more controlled.
