Student answer (Band 5.0)

relationships between colleagues is a controversial subject that differs from person to other. Some persons think that is so benefecial to befreind their coworkers. However, other ones think that is better to avoid personal relationships with them.

For my own perspective, I believe that we should limit our relation with our colleagues and i' am going to explain my reasons.

First and foremost, when we strength our relationship with our colleagues we will get stucked more and more in work life and we can't find a work -life balance because of colleagues in general prefer talking about work conditions about their boss in their picnic or tours for example my colleagues who are teachers talk always about students, parents, worksheets and lesson plans even in their internet communities or ij their funpages and that's so stressful for me and it can't help me to clear my mind and unwind from my stressful work. On the other side, colleagues in general love knowing everything personal about thrir coworker if they became friend with him they want to know everything about his parents siblings, partner or children in the name of friendship for instance,if you're young woman and work in a most women field like primary teaching they find that asking about your lovelife is a mandatory question that you'll be obliged to respond to it and if o day I'm single they'll scream and ask the annoying questions like why and i feel very upset and uncomfortable. Why i should explain the reason of being single or engaged to all people who around me in work .Is it a personal question?

The most important reason for me , when people became more and more close to their colleagues the work issues became more and more bigger because people im general put all their eggs in a ond basket so their colleagues will know their weak and strong aspects in work and that's will be a cause of envy ,hate , and high -concentration and Even stealing my creativity if I 'm better than them and this lead to neglecting and laughing of me if i 'm low of then and even exploring my weakness in work will be a source of thmw to laugh at me .

To finish, i think tht having a big space between persons and their colleagues is the magic key for work -lufe -balance, avoiding uncessary personal conversations and reserving my creativity ij work and make it better

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear personal preference for keeping work and social life more separate, and you support it with relevant examples, such as colleagues discussing teaching after work and asking intrusive questions about relationships. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the benefits of socialising with colleagues are only briefly mentioned in the opening; they are not explained or supported. Your reasons for separation are also repetitive, with several points returning to stress, privacy, and workplace tension without fully exploring their consequences. Develop the opposing view—for example, how socialising can build trust or teamwork—and explain your own reasons in a more focused way to address all parts of the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, a stated opinion, supporting paragraphs, and a concluding sentence, so the reader can identify your overall position. You also use signposts such as “First and foremost” and “To finish.” However, progression is difficult to follow because the first main paragraph combines work-related conversation, personal questions, and several examples in one long sequence. The next paragraph repeats the concern about closeness by introducing envy and criticism without a clear transition. Some linking phrases, including “On the other side,” do not clearly signal the relationship between ideas, and the conclusion introduces several points at once. Use separate paragraphs for distinct reasons and connect each example directly to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “work-life balance,” “unwind,” “personal relationships,” and “creativity.” These choices show an effort to express ideas beyond basic statements. However, the range is limited by repeated use of “colleagues,” “work,” and “more and more,” while frequent spelling and word-choice errors sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “befreind,” “stucked,” “thwir,” and “exploring my weakness,” where the intended meaning is unclear or the expression is unsuitable. Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “high-concentration” and “a big space between persons.” Build accuracy with common collocations and choose precise expressions, such as “maintain professional boundaries” or “discuss work-related matters.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt longer sentences with subordinate clauses, for example when explaining why work conversations make it difficult to unwind, and you use conditional forms such as “if you’re young woman.” These attempts show some range, but complex sentences are often faulty and punctuation makes them hard to read. There are frequent problems with agreement and verb forms, as in “relationships … is” and “people became,” as well as missing or incorrect articles and pronouns. Several sentences run on, particularly the passage beginning “First and foremost,” where multiple ideas are joined without clear sentence boundaries. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine related ideas with controlled clauses and consistent punctuation.
