Student answer (Band 5.5)

Well, nowadays people likes to share their social life even they are on work or by using the online platforms such as instagram or snapchat. However, some people think that we should keep our personal and professional life seperate. I would like to discuss my both views as well as my opinion by following examples in the upcoming paragraphs.

Firstly, some people like to keep their life private on work because they think that while doing the job, they should forget about the home worries and problems as they can cause distraction on work. Secondly, a few people are intovert as they don't like to make too many friends and they don't want to share any of their life secert. For example, my father, always keep the scoial life seperate from his work and never shared any home related problems with their colleagues as they think that we should not share every single detail of our life with other people.

However, others think that people should spend some time with their co-workers after work during the evenings and weekends. By spending time with them they can gain more knowledge or learn some communication skills that how to behave while talking to other colleagues and how to ask for a favor regarding something as some of them are new to work and they can make links with other people in the same industry. For instance, if someone is new in the company, they can learn from their seniors that when they arrange meetings, what things they should be taken care of that nothing goes wrong during the meetings, if they spend evenings together after work.

But, in my point of view, i think we should keep social and work life seperate. Because, after work, in the evenings and during weekends, we should spend our time with our family as they are waiting at home for us to spend time. We should spend some quality time with our parents or grandparents and play with children. Due to the hactic schedule of work, during the weekdays, we are unable to give them enough time.

In conclusion, it's our own choice to what to do with our personal and professional life. If you want to share some good or bad stories of your life then you can make the evenings and weekends colorful with their presence at your own place or outside of home. Otherwise, it's better to stay at home with your own family.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear personal position: you explain why some people prefer privacy at work, present benefits of socialising with colleagues, and conclude that family time should take priority. The examples about your father and a new employee make the discussion relevant. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the case for keeping work and social life separate is explained in more detail, while the benefits of socialising focus mainly on learning workplace skills and making connections. The opening also refers to sharing life online, which is not central to the question. To strengthen the response, explain more fully how socialising can build trust or improve teamwork, and connect each example directly to the view it supports.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. Some connections are less smooth or precise, though. The opening promises to discuss “my both views,” which is unclear, and the final paragraph shifts from your preference for family time to a conditional suggestion about sharing stories without fully linking the ideas. Some sentences also contain several points at once, particularly the example about a new employee, making the progression harder to follow. Use clearer topic sentences and make each example’s relevance explicit; vary linking expressions rather than relying mainly on basic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “personal and professional life,” “colleagues,” “communication skills,” and “quality time.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “make links” and “home worries,” but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural and occasionally make the meaning less clear. Spelling errors such as “seperate,” “intovert,” “secert,” and “hactic” are noticeable, while “social life” and “spend time” are repeated frequently. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, “make links” could be “build professional connections,” and “home worries” could be “personal concerns.” This would make your vocabulary more natural and effective for the topic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “as,” and “if,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction recur. For example, “people likes” should be “people like,” and “my father, always keep” should be “my father always keeps.” In “they can learn from their seniors that when they arrange meetings,” the clause structure is awkward and needs restructuring. The sentence beginning “Because, after work” is also an incomplete sentence when separated from the previous idea. Work on checking subject–verb agreement and forming complete sentences, while keeping complex sentences shorter and clearer. More consistent accuracy would make your ideas easier to follow.
