Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that employees should spend their leisure time with colleagues, while others believe that one should keep personal and professional life separate. In my opinion, socialising with colleagues has benefits but maintaining a balance between work and personal life is also important.

To begin with, socialising with colleagues has several advantages as it creates ahealthy and comfortable work environment. When collegue spend time together outside working hours, they can build stronger relationship with each others. As a result, they will work more effectively as a team. For example, colleagues who have a good relationship can perform their tasks more effeciently.

Additionally, socialising with collaegues allow employees to build their professional contacts. These contacts can serve as a ladder for their career growth. For example, one can use their contact to get their desire position in the company. Moreover, socialising with colleagues boost confidence and develop stronger communication skills.

However, others argue that people should spend their evenings and weekends with family. One of the significant reasons is that spending leisure time with family allows people to relax or maintain healthy work-life balance. For example, people who spend quality time with families may perform effeciently in office tasks. Spending time with family provides comfort. People who spend their free time with family may experience peace and comfort.

In conclusion, I believe that one should adopt a balanced approach towards personal and proffessional life. Although socialising with collegues has several benefits, a balanced approach between family and work life is essential too.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and state a balanced position: socialising with colleagues has benefits, while personal and family time also matters. Relevant reasons include teamwork, career contacts, relaxation, and work-life balance. However, several points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that a colleague’s contact can help someone obtain a desired position needs clarification or a realistic example, and the family-time paragraph repeats the ideas of comfort and peace without developing them further. Your opinion is clear in the introduction and conclusion, but it could be more decisive about how people should balance these competing priorities. Develop fewer points with clearer explanation and specific examples to make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph supporting socialising with colleagues, a contrasting paragraph about family time, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “To begin with,” “Additionally,” “However,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in linking ideas. However, the links between claims and explanations are sometimes mechanical, and the family paragraph repeats “comfort” and “spend time with family” rather than progressing to a distinct supporting point. Some references, such as “these contacts” and “their contact,” could be more precise. Use clearer internal links to explain cause and effect, and avoid repeating the same idea in different wording.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “work-life balance,” “professional contacts,” “career growth,” and “communication skills.” These expressions help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, noticeable spelling errors, including “collegue,” “effeciently,” “collaegues,” and “proffessional.” Some word choices and collocations are also inaccurate or awkward: “get their desire position” and “serve as a ladder for their career growth” do not sound natural in this context. Repeated use of “socialising,” “colleagues,” and “family” also limits variety. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations, such as “secure a desired position” and “advance one’s career,” to make your vocabulary more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple sentences and more complex forms, including a subordinate clause in “When colleagues spend time together outside working hours…” and a concession structure in “Although socialising with colleagues has several benefits…”. Most sentences communicate their meaning, and errors rarely prevent understanding. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain, particularly with agreement and plural forms: “colleague spend” should be “colleagues spend,” “stronger relationship” needs a plural form, and “socialising with colleagues allow” should be “allows.” There are also problems with pronoun agreement in “one can use their contact” and with the construction “between family and work life.” Continue practising subject–verb agreement, articles and plural nouns, and proofread sentence patterns while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
