Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people beleive that it’s a good idea to socialise with work colleagues during evenings and weekends. On the other hand some people beleive it’s important to keep working life completely separate from social life.

In todays world work culture plays an important role in our life and we tends to spend more than 9 to 10 hours daily with our colleagues. Many of us think its a good idea to socialise with co-workers on weekends and evening as it build a bonding as well as teamwork between them as it is benficial for the work they perform. In some offices the manager take his or her team to a lunch or a party on weekend to engage more with their subordinate.

Contradicting to the above view many people believe its important to keep the professional and private life separate as it my hamper their quality of living. Some people share too much informatin about their personal life to their co-worker and friends in the office which later back fires them. People gossip about others private life in office which consume time and impact on their daily performance.

I beleive its important to keep both personal life and professional life seperate. I have seen people use your personal life incident anf problem to their leverage and try to demean you sometime. So according to me its good if you wor on our success privately and deal with colleagues professionally. F

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You discuss both views and state your own position clearly: you support keeping personal and professional life separate. Relevant reasons include teamwork and bonding on one side, and gossip or misuse of personal information on the other. However, these points are only briefly explained; for example, the workplace socialising paragraph gives a manager’s outing as an example but does not show in detail how it improves teamwork. The conclusion also introduces a personal observation without developing it. The response is 215 words, so it is 35 words below the required minimum; this limits the space available to explain and support your ideas. Develop each view with a clearer explanation and a specific example before concluding.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a final paragraph giving your opinion. Transitions such as “On the other hand” and “Contradicting to the above view” help signal the change in perspective. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and several ideas are joined in long chains with repeated “as” and “and,” making the relationships between claims less clear. The final paragraph begins with a clear position but ends abruptly with “F,” which disrupts the conclusion. Use clearer topic sentences, separate explanations from examples, and connect each point explicitly to the next to create a more consistent line of development.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “teamwork,” “professional and private life,” “gossip,” and “daily performance,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “demean you” and “use your personal life incident … to their leverage.” However, spelling errors are frequent, including “beleive,” “benficial,” “informatin,” and “seperate,” and some phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “back fires them” and “work on our success privately.” These errors reduce precision and make parts of the response harder to follow. Check spelling carefully and learn natural collocations for discussing workplace relationships and personal boundaries.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast between the two views and clauses explaining possible consequences. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently. For example, “we tends to spend” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “the manager take” should use a singular verb. In “as it build a bonding,” the verb form and sentence construction are faulty; “which consume time” also needs agreement with its subject. Missing or incorrect articles and punctuation further affect accuracy. These problems do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they sometimes make individual sentences difficult to interpret. Practise checking agreement and verb forms, and divide long sentences into shorter, controlled units.
