Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response selects the main patterns accurately: men lead only among 15–24-year-olds, women lead in the other five groups, and the oldest group is nearly level. It supports these points with relevant figures, including the male low of 39.5% and the largest gender gap in the 35–44 group. The overview is clear and the comparisons are well chosen. To make the account more fully developed, include a little more of the overall movement across the age groups—for example, that women’s rate rises to a peak at 45–54 before declining, while men’s rate falls to 35–44 and then recovers. The phrase “females were ahead with marginal points” is also unclear, although the following sentence clarifies the 0.4-point difference.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The four paragraphs have a clear purpose: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the male and female figures. The progression is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “then,” and “However” help signal relationships between ideas. Comparisons are also placed near the relevant figures. Some cohesion is less smooth where information is repeated: the near-equality of the oldest group appears in both the overview and the male paragraph, and the female lead in five groups is already stated in the overview. You could use the body paragraphs to add distinct trend details instead. More precise referencing and cleaner phrasing would also make links between sentences feel less abrupt.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
There is an adequate range for describing the chart, including “proportion,” “peak rate,” “lowest proportion,” “trailed,” and “biggest gap.” These choices help communicate comparisons and trends, and the meaning remains clear. However, some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “ahead with marginal points,” “the peak rate they observed,” and “0.4 marginal points.” There are also spelling slips in “ti” and inconsistent capitalisation in “Women.” Aim for standard chart language and precise collocations, such as “a marginal lead of 0.4 percentage points” and “the highest proportion was recorded.” This would make the vocabulary more controlled and natural without requiring more elaborate wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the overview clause “where males were clearly ahead” and the comparison beginning “where females were ahead by 13 percentage points.” Most sentences communicate the intended data clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, however: “Male were most active” needs plural agreement (“Males were”), and “in the 35 to 44% age group” has an incorrect construction and spacing. In “the 45 to 54 group,” an article or a fuller age-group phrase would improve the structure. The sentence “The peak rate they observed was in 45 to 54 group” is also awkwardly formed. Check agreement, articles, and sentence patterns around age ranges to improve accuracy while retaining varied structures.
