Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several relevant features, including the female peak at ages 45–54 (53.3%) and the male peak among 15–24-year-olds (52.8%), and you note the male low at 35–44. However, the overview is not consistently accurate: women’s activity does not simply “reduce” towards age 65 and over; it falls from its middle-age high to 47.1%, while men’s rate rises after its low to 46.7%. The comparison that male and female figures are “approximately same from 52.8% to 52.5%” is misleading: these values belong to different groups, and the gap between the sexes is substantial in some age bands. Develop the main trends with accurate comparisons across the age groups rather than relying on isolated figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening, an overview, a data paragraph and a concluding sentence. This gives the reader some organisation, and expressions such as “Overall” and “Moreover” signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is limited: the data paragraph does not systematically compare the age groups, and the conclusion repeats the general idea that percentages change without adding a clear summary. Some linking is awkward or unclear, particularly “Alternatively” and “In 65 and onward,” while “Whereas” begins a fragment rather than a complete contrast. Group the information into a clear comparison—for example, younger groups and older groups—and use linking phrases only where they accurately show the relationship between the figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “proportion,” “age groups” and “fluctuated,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “the percentage of female is peaked” and “the proportion of male and female approximately same” are not natural ways to describe the data; “ratio” is also used where “percentage” or “rate” is more appropriate. There are also inconsistent forms such as “womens.” Build a reliable set of chart-description phrases and use them precisely, such as “the figure for women peaked at” and “the rates were similar.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a few complex structures, including “as compared to other age groups” and “between 45 to 54 and 55 to 64,” but the range is limited and errors occur frequently. Subject–verb agreement and verb forms are problematic in “The bar chart illustrate” and “the percentage of female is peaked.” Several sentences are incomplete or awkwardly joined: “Whereas, In male categories…” does not form a complete sentence, and “both are almost same” lacks a clear grammatical construction. Articles, plurals and prepositions also need attention. Practise writing accurate simple comparison sentences first, then combine them with clauses using “while” or “whereas”; check that each sentence has a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
