Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the chart’s subject and select relevant extremes: male participation is highest among 15–24-year-olds and lowest among 35–44-year-olds, while female participation is highest around ages 45–54. However, the response only partially summarises the data. The overview is unclear and repeats selected details rather than describing the main pattern across the age groups. There is also a factual inaccuracy: the female peak is 53.3%, not 53.5%, and the lowest female figure is 47.1% for those aged 15–24, not for the 65-and-over group. To strengthen the report, give a clear overview of the contrasting trends and compare the sexes across the age range, including that women exceed men in every group except the youngest.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure, beginning with an introduction and then presenting observations, and phrases such as “In addition” and “In contrast” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, there is no clear progression from an overview to well-organised supporting comparisons. The second and third paragraphs largely repeat the same highest and lowest figures, while the overall pattern is not developed. Some linking is also awkward or unclear, as in “As can be seen that” and “In the contrast.” Organise the report into a concise overview followed by comparisons grouped by sex or age pattern, and use linking expressions only where they accurately show the relationship between points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “age group,” and “participated,” so the topic is generally clear. There is some variation in how you refer to the data, but word choice and collocation are often imprecise: people are described as “interested in physical activities,” although the chart measures participation, and “the less proportion” is not a natural expression. “The male having the age of” is also awkward, and “physcical” is misspelled. These choices make the report less precise and fluent, though the intended meaning is usually recoverable. Prefer standard reporting language such as “the proportion who exercised regularly,” “the lowest figure,” and “men aged 15–24,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can usually understand the comparisons. However, control is uneven, particularly in sentence openings and noun phrases. For example, “As can be seen that” combines structures incorrectly; use either “As can be seen, …” or “It can be seen that …”. In “the highest percentage of 45 to 54 years female,” the age phrase and singular/plural forms are not handled accurately. The sentence beginning “In the contrast, between the age of 65 and over…” is also incomplete in its construction. Build accuracy with clear subject–verb sentences, such as “Women aged 45–54 recorded the highest rate,” and vary sentence patterns only when you can maintain correct structure.
