Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main contrast accurately: women recorded higher activity in every age group except 15–24, and you report the male peak (52.8%) and low (39.5%) as well as the female peak (53.3%). The comparison of the 35–44 figures and the small 0.4-point gap among the oldest group are useful supporting details. However, the overview is not fully precise: “The highest percentage was in the middle age group” is vague and could suggest a single overall peak, rather than specifying that women peaked at 45–54 while men peaked at 15–24. Also, the female trend across age groups is not described, and “the competition was tough” is an imprecise way to report a close comparison. Make the overview more specific and summarise both series’ patterns.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs describing male and female figures. This makes the information easy to follow, and comparisons such as the 35–44 gap are placed in a relevant context. Some linking is less controlled, however. “Whereas” begins a sentence fragment after the male peak, and repeated uses of “However” do not always express a clear contrast. The overview’s “middle age group” is also vague, which weakens the progression from the general summary to the detailed figures. Use complete linked sentences and organise the details in a consistent sequence, such as age-group trends or male figures followed by female figures, with more precise references.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “regular physical activity,” “peak,” “lowest,” and “percentage points.” These choices help communicate the chart’s main comparisons. There are also several inaccurate or unnatural expressions that limit precision: “bar chat” and “illustates” contain spelling errors, “proportion of points” is not an appropriate description of a percentage, and “the competition was tough” is too informal and figurative for an academic report. “Females were ahead” is understandable but less formal than a direct comparison of the rates. Aim for accurate, neutral chart language and check spelling; terms such as “participation rate,” “recorded,” and “the difference was narrow” would suit this task better.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “the 35 to 44 age group, where males trailed females” and a sentence describing a change over time. Most of the intended meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors and punctuation choices reduce accuracy. “Whereas” is used as a sentence opener without a main clause, and “However gap was marginal” is missing an article. “Males peak rate” needs a possessive form, while “about 39.5% from their” has an unclear and incomplete construction. There is also a comma splice in the final sentence. Build complete clauses around contrast linkers, check articles and possessives, and use full stops or conjunctions to join independent clauses.
