Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to summarise the data but struggles with clarity and accuracy. While it identifies some key figures, the description of the graph's components is confusing and unnecessary (e.g., describing the colors and axes in detail rather than focusing on the trends). The comparison of data points is often imprecise or misstated, such as the claim about the 'smaller parts' of men and women. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant trends, such as the peak participation rates and the general decline or fluctuation across age groups, rather than listing individual data points in a disjointed manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay uses basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover', but these are used mechanically and often inappropriately to describe the physical layout of the graph rather than the data itself. The logical progression is hindered by the focus on describing the graph's legend and axes. Paragraphing is absent, as the entire response is a single block of text. To improve, organize the information into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and specific details grouped logically by gender or age group.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and contains several non-standard expressions, such as 'Australian government of genes and ladies' and 'initial state to from sixty'. These errors make the meaning difficult to follow. There is a lack of precise terminology for describing statistical data (e.g., 'the highest covered physical activity' is awkward). To reach a higher band, you should learn standard collocations for describing charts, such as 'the proportion of,' 'reached a peak of,' and 'showed a downward trend.' Avoid translating directly from your native language when describing graph features.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. Examples include 'the gender expressed between Australian government of genes and ladies' and 'the teenager boys are the largest physical activity'. Sentence structures are often fragmented or incorrectly constructed, making it difficult to determine the subject of the sentences. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and basic subject-verb agreement is often missing. To improve, focus on mastering simple sentence construction first, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject, verb, and object, before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
