Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task and provides a clear overview of the main trends. You successfully identified the key features, such as the peak in the 15-24 age group for men and the general upward trend for women. However, the analysis is slightly hampered by some inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you state that men's activity declined to 39.5% by the 35-44 age group, but the data shows a different progression. Additionally, the description of the 55-64 age group as having 'slight fluctuations' is not fully supported by the chart. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are cited with greater precision and that the comparison between genders is more consistently maintained throughout the report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information by age and gender. Cohesive devices such as 'while', 'on the contrary', and 'in the meantime' are used to connect ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by mechanical phrasing, such as 'in progress of their age' or 'in meantime'. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the overview and the specific data points could be smoother. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'the latter', 'this group') is used to avoid repetitive sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'fluctuations', and 'remain constant'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'up-down tendency', 'doing physical activity in progress of their age', and 'grow up at same period'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your report. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more natural collocations and academic phrasing, such as 'a downward trend' instead of 'up-down tendency' and 'increased' or 'rose' instead of 'grow up' when referring to statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the old age', 'in 55 to 64 age group'), prepositions, and verb forms ('women physical activity increased'). Some sentences are slightly disjointed due to these errors, such as 'the proportion physical activity done by men was highest amount'. Despite these issues, the meaning remains clear throughout the text. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles when referring to specific age groups or statistical categories.
