Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response provides a summary of the main features, but it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified key data points, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, listing figures rather than synthesizing trends effectively. To improve, ensure you provide a clear overview that highlights the most significant differences between genders and age groups. The conclusion is also quite brief and lacks a cohesive summary of the overall patterns observed in the chart. Expanding on the comparisons between the groups would help you meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive report.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the flow between sentences is often repetitive and lacks a variety of cohesive devices. You rely heavily on simple transitions like 'First' and 'Then', which makes the writing feel mechanical. To improve, try using more sophisticated linking words and phrases such as 'In contrast', 'Conversely', or 'Furthermore' to connect your ideas more fluidly. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of your argument across the different age categories.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is functional but limited. You tend to repeat basic verbs like 'go up', 'drop', and 'increase'. To achieve a higher band score, you should incorporate a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuate', 'decline', 'peak', or 'remain stable'. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'different numbers for exercise', which could be expressed more precisely as 'varying levels of physical activity'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you describe the data with more precision and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The bar chart show', 'it go up', 'it go down'). There is also a lack of complex sentence structures, as most of your sentences are simple and follow a similar pattern. To improve, focus on using a mix of complex sentences, such as using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions (e.g., 'While women in the 35-44 age group showed the highest participation, men in the same category experienced a significant decline'). Improving your control over basic grammar and punctuation will significantly enhance the clarity of your writing.
