Student answer (Band 6.0)
The image presents a bar chart, indicating the numbers over one hundred percent the Australian males and females engaging with physical fitness in 2010.There is a sex indicator below of the chart..
The chart majority comprises of the age groups and the percentage of men and women working out in 2010. In general, females exercised more than the males from 25-34,35-44, 45-54, 55-64, 65 and above but only the ages 15-24 stand out as the vise versa of the situation, whereby the males exercised more than the females.
The maximum percentage over hundred in the males is 52.8, which occurred in ages 15-24, whereas the highest number in the females is 53.3.
From the diagram, the numbers almost got in uniform with the senior adults aged 65 and above showing that the difference between a man and a woman doing regular exercise is 0.4, being that males percent is 46.7% while the female is 47.1%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response identifies the main features of the chart, such as the general trend of female participation and the specific age group where males lead. However, the overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the overall trends. The interpretation of the data is occasionally confusing, particularly the mention of 'numbers over one hundred percent,' which is factually incorrect based on the provided chart. While the main features are selected, the comparison between groups could be more analytical rather than just listing numbers. To improve, ensure that the overview highlights the most significant trends rather than just stating individual data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between sentences is somewhat mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited, and some transitions are awkward, such as 'the vise versa of the situation.' The referencing is occasionally unclear, making the progression of ideas feel disjointed. While the paragraphing is present, the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks logical development. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'engaging with physical fitness' and 'sex indicator.' The term 'vise versa' is used incorrectly in this context. While the student attempts to use specific data, the range of vocabulary is limited to basic descriptors. To achieve a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoiding repetitive or misused terminology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include 'The chart majority comprises of the age groups' (incorrect preposition) and 'the numbers almost got in uniform' (unnatural phrasing). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity of the report. Focusing on sentence structure and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
