Student answer (Band 7.0)
The tabular data delineates the data regarding Australian men and women from different age groups who had done regular physical activity in past 2010.
Considering from an overall perspective, it can be apparently observed that women are considerably higher than men in all age groups except the age between 15 to 24.
To begin with, 52.8% men are recorded for doing daily physical activity, whereas the women accounted for 47.7% for the age bracket between 15 to 24. However, the women aged 25 to 34 reported 48.9% who liked to do physical activity daily, whilst the men noticed for 42.2%.
Furthermore, those men aged 35 to 44 observed the lowest percentage which is only 39.5%, while women for that age group was 52.5%. Noticeably, women aged 45 to 54 witnessed the highest proportion with 53.3% and the man was 43.1%. Moreover, 53% women are observed who did regular exercise for the age group between 55 to 64. Nevertheless, nearly only 1% difference is observed between men and women who aged is more than 65 where the former one is reported at 46.7% and latter one for 47.1%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends and making relevant comparisons between genders across age groups. The overview is clear and highlights the primary difference (women generally participating more than men, except in the youngest bracket). However, the report is slightly mechanical in its presentation of data, listing figures for each age group rather than synthesising the information more effectively. While all key features are addressed, the analysis could be more analytical by grouping similar trends together rather than following a strictly chronological age-group progression. Nevertheless, the main features are accurately reported and supported by the provided data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organised, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that follow the age groups. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'However', 'Furthermore', and 'Moreover' are used to guide the reader through the data. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different sections of the analysis. While the flow is generally smooth, some of the transitions between sentences feel slightly repetitive in structure. The referencing is clear, and the progression of ideas is logical throughout the report, meeting the requirements for a Band 7 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication of the data. The student uses terms like 'delineates', 'bracket', 'proportion', and 'witnessed' appropriately. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'men are recorded for doing' and 'men noticed for', which sound unnatural. There is also a minor error in the phrasing 'the man was 43.1%' (should be 'men were'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'who had done regular physical activity in past 2010' (incorrect preposition/tense) and 'the women aged 25 to 34 reported 48.9% who liked to do physical activity daily' (clunky phrasing). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'the man was 43.1%' and 'the former one is reported at 46.7%'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. A greater variety of error-free complex structures is needed.
